Here are the ones we like the best. Home Depot, Ace, all of them carry them and they work well.

Wow, I wish I had an answer for you, but I have never played with one of those. But I do remember a guy in the magazines named Orve Elgie, or something like that, and he adapted Duster brakes to an early Dodge. If you can't find an answer here, I would post the question on the HAMB, lots of guys on there have probably done it.

If you have never done an introduction on there, do one first. The introduction Nazis will jump on you if you dont. Secondly, say you are working on a 39 pickup, not a rat rod or a bobber or anything like that. They really get nuts when someone says they are just using a body like that to build a bobber with no fenders, or a rat rod.

Just trying to keep you from getting flamed over there.

Mr. Don, I've noticed your rods and posts on here. would you happen to know if there is a fairly simple way to adapt front drums from a say 61-71 Dodge pickup to my 39 Plymouth truck front axle ? Or any other good self-energizing drum ? I'd like to keep my truck old school if possible. Thanks for your time.

When you say "pipe" is that like water pipe? If so, it is not made for using as a crossmember. Go to a steel supply house and get a piece of 3 inch DOM tubing with about an 1/8 to 3/16 wall thickness and use that. I don't think the softer spring would do that, it was just probably that the frame was twisting up front and wasn't properly gusseted. Do you have any pictures ?

Hey Don, This is Ratcrazy. Got a couple of questions.
    1) I had the front end lined up on my rpu and the tires balanced. I noticed the shackles were bottomed out so I go & buy a shorter/softer spring. Now at 50-55 or above the front tires wants to bounce back and forth, kinda up and down. That leads me to the 2nd part & the real question. I was thinking of adding a leaf to the sotfer spring and thats when I noticed a couple of stress cracks in tube at each end. This is a suicide front end. The welds are good but the tube/pipe its self is showing cracks out next to the frame rails. The rails at ok, just in the tube. The tube is 3"x1/4" wall pipe with a seam. What would you suggest that I replace the tube with? And do you think the softer spring would cause the pipe to crack like that? If possible please reply soon.
    Thanks and God bless,
    Larry aka ratcrazy
