The cowl vent on my 40 ford truck was leaded shut by the previous owner. while working on it i removed the lead and found that the entire seal area is rotted. I have a spare cab that has a good functioning cowl vent that i can use. Would it be worth it to replace it or just cut out the rotted area and weld it up?

Your choice. I always like to keep them functional since my cars don't have A/C & Tejas summers are scorchers!!!

I would have said leave it sealed but, since you went to the trouble of removing the lead then, fix it. You'll love the amount of air inside the cab.

A/C or no A/C, you'll appreciate the ventilation in a small cab, unless you and your passenger(s) are elves.

I'll explain my comment. I'm 6'3" and 260 lbs. My best friend is similar in height and weight. The two of us in his ('52) truck cab instantly defines "displacement" and trust me, some "fresh" air is welcome.
