This here is a spillover ffrom this thread: http://ratrodsrule.com/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=247 .

Since this is an in depth coverage of wiring Mama's truck, I figured it shoud have it's own space. For wiring the truck I'm using an EZ Wiring 18 circuit harness kit. Before even touching the wiring, me being fanatical about instruction books, spent a few hours going over them & making notes as to where all my accessories fell in on this harness. Since I have some additional accessories that needed wiring of their own, I figured those would be wired before I even touched the truck harness.
Last nite & this evening were dedicated to wiring the radiator fan, speedometer & putting in new oil/temp sending units.

Now to prep the harness for installation,,,,,

One nice thing about this harness is that EZ has divided the wiring into 4 basic groups : front, dash, tail & steering column.

Using my trailer as a work bench, I first make sure all the wiring I need is there. Then I seperate out the wires I'm not using as of now. I then further seperated each group into smaller groups.
What I ended up with was:
Dash - gages, headlight switch & misc accessories
Front - lighting & eng accessories
Tail
Steering column - the items that are connected to the column have the
ends on them from the factory

I also made a seperate section in each group for wires that will be used later or maybe not at all.

Are you following the stock wiring paths? or are you re-engineering it?

....I'm REALLY not looking forward to wiring my truck (next weekend maybe).

I can't decide if I want the fuses under the dash or under the seat (like a T-bucket). I'm kinda leaning toward under the seat so I can keep the dash smooth.

Any idea how many hours you will have in the wiring, when all is said and done?

The only real spot that the wiring has a distinct path is the rear. That runs down the left frame rail. I just ran it the same way. Now the engine compartment, front lighting and dash will be done so the wiring runs in as logical a path as I can make it.

I hear you there, Brother!! Funny thing is, in my day job I work on completely electronic & computer controled weapons systems. This includes sometimes repairing or rebuilding wiring harness', go figure.

I put my fuse box under the dash just because I figured it would be easier to run ther wiring with it there. It's up high enough that it can't be seen unless you crawl on the floor.

Right now, I have roughly 24.5 hhrs in the wiring. That's including time for wiring the radiator fan, speedometer pulse generator & trip reset sw. Also, includes time I spent making notes and plan of attack. I hope to have it done by this weekend & am estimating another 30 hrs at the most.

Bundled up the rear wiring,,,,,

Getting the headlights, parking lights & signals wired in. Trying to use as much of wiring routing as it was when it came apart. The headlight wiring goes thu the same spot it did originally. Just not using the terminal block that was used factory. Not sure how the witing ran for the park lights but, this hole in the front of the inner fender seemed good to me.

Your a good man Bruce. I hate wiring to the point that I usually get a friend who likes it to do it instead of doing it myself. I don't know why I hate it. It's just a mental thing I have with it.
