Need some help trying to determine why my Hobart wire welder shorts out the wire feed at the alignment rollers inside the case when its plugged in. The problem all started when I noticed a humming noise when I plugged it in, and when I put the welding tip close to the metal it would arc without pulling the trigger. I was told by a friend that there must be a short inside. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks rr44

Make sure there is not any slag in the nozzle, sometimes a small chunk will make the connection there, and the welder will try to arc in a different place.

I have had mine do that when the contact inside the gun is being made when it is not supposed to be. Take the trigger section apart after you inspect the tip and nozzle area closely. Good luck!

Welder

Has the jacket been pinched or run over,,if its welding inside the feed mechanism then center is going to ground
