TBI to carb

Looks great Skull. Nice clean intake without all the annoying vacuum stuff. I'm gonna try this mod sometime. [cl

should be effective though l used 4 gaskets to make it work, hard to cut the carb gaskets to clear the adapter/spacer. the cut outs are a little rough and the carb is really up in the air, sort of a mini-ram.

when the intake bolted on to the motor and going down the road l will let everbody knows how it runs.

l figure a curb weight of around 23OO pounds, about 28O hp and 32O fpt it should still haul
butt 0K.

13 1/2 inches from the bottom of the intake to the top of the air cleaner and l don't even have the nut that holds down the air cleaner or stud included.

Cool build Skull....

As for the tank, maybe a few gallons of CLR might clean it out...?? [S Just a thought....Nice job on the intake.... never would have thought to adapt it onto a TBI intake... very clever.... should work out I'd guess... [P

l showed it to my expert carb guy today and he say's since it is a 2 barrel intake the fuel may not atomize great and give it a bottom end off the line bog.

even with a little bog the 454 will blast "THAT" around just fine[cl

Skull, I like your 'hot-rodded intake'. Here's a picture of my 'hot-rodded intake, for a Poly 318. [the red one]
We all are snowed under with coffee-shop wisdom when were building something, like you having to worry about a bog in a 454. You already have 200 too much horsepower, to drive around with, and someone is advising you to do all kinds of things at great expense to yourself, to get 3 more horsepower. You are taking the right approach, saying "I think I'll get by" with a 454.

l had one of those poly wide block 318's in a truck and that thing ran forever, ran it 7 years, towing car trailers and several 2OO mile road trips before the whole front-end was so wore out it was not rebuildable and not worth (in the 198O's) the time or effort. after l sold to the local wrecking yard they used her as a yard truck for about 5 more years till they closed and now a mini-mall is on the site, what a waste of a good wrecking yard.

rear

we made this conglomeration to lift the rear-end ride height, before we did this modification the ride height was about 2 inches off the ground.

now the rear is 8 inches and the front is 4 inches, so at least l can drive it on the road.

it had Dual Quarter-Elliptics on all 4 corners for suspension.

l moved the top mount on the rear-end to the bottom spring to lift it up, put 2 link bars on the bottom rear-end mounts to keep the thing from moving around then stuck a 198O camaro sway-bar to help with roll/sway in the corners and fabbed shock mounts for a set of Pro Race brand shocks.

l like building rat rods for this reason, if it works great, if not, l will figure something else out.

we had to pull one leaf out of the three springs to soften up the ride and get a little more movement in the rear. l took out middle one/medium one.

firewall start

we got started on the firewall, l used a 8O's chevy hood that was all bent from someone forcing the thing shut with bad hinges, figure it ain't good for nuthin' but sheet metal at this point in it's life.

more to come as we progress on the firewall/cowl.

I used an identical (year, color, condition) hood for many of the patches on my 39. Still have the front and back edges for special use. Maybe the lower valance on the back of the bed. Who knows.
 
cowl

took 3 1925ish cowls and made then into a single one that is 58 inches wide for the cowl[;) body length 63 inches to the back of the passenger compartment.

bracing, body, wiring--the list is long.
