I think Holden had already quit making cars, and were just the importer for GM anymore. From what I heard on the radio this morning, GM is pulling out of Australia and New Zealand altogether.

Crate can fill us in....

Yep, closing the doors at the end of the year.
GM is pulling out of Australia, New Zealand & Taiwan.

From mav's link...

"General Motors says itís pulling out of Australia, New Zealand and Thailand as part of a strategy to exit markets that donít produce adequate returns on investments."

Translation: Our filthy rich executives aren't filthy rich enough.

In a related story... GM recently closed its plant in Oshawa ON, Canada... adequate since 1915.

My '69 GMC was made in Oshawa. That stinks.

Pretty sad.

My dad was a Holden man - most of the family cars we had when I was a kid are now considered classics. Back then they were just good, locally made cars.

On the other side of the coin, pretty much as soon as this news came out Ford stated that they'd be committing a heap of resources to R & D new cars for Australia...
