Off topic, but I'm telling the story anyways...

When I was a Boy Scout, we took a week long camping/canoe trip. The highlight of this trip was supposed to be an 11 mile cross, portage, cross, portage "day trip" through a chain of small lakes. All went well until the last leg...

Back on the largest lake, now 5 miles from camp, we needed to cross the lake "kitty corner" to get home. We made our way to the approximate center of the lake (in nice, calm conditions) before we noticed a storm building on the horizon. Lovely. The storm came in quick and our leader knew we were in trouble. We paddled hard for shore, but the storm was on top of us in no time...

Lightning was striking the lake all around us and silly as it might seem, every time a bolt struck, everybody lifted their paddles out of the water. (Wooden paddles, fiberglass canoes.) The clincher was a bolt that hit nothing more than 15 feet from our little flotilla...

I'm here to tell you, that bolt hit the lake like a Datsun at terminal velocity. The paddles were again, raised. A dozen adolescent kids (myself included) promptly soiled their trousers and likely set a speed record for "Canoe over a 1/4 mile."

When we finally reached shore, we covered ourselves with the canoes and waited for the storm to blow through. When the skies cleared, we paddled ourselves home.

That, my friends, is a true story, believe it or not. I was scared sh**less and never want to go there again...

.

so, after all that, you still ask me to post a picture of the pos muffler...? you dare devil you... :D

Don't care for lightning myself. Been zapped twice, not bad but enough to know I don't like it. Both time in a basement garage. Once through my feet when it struck the electric fence next door. the other time through both arms while holding a portable band saw and the strike was in the yard.

That is quite a story and not at all off topic. My brother was staying at a condo and just woke up. He walked out to the balcony just as a lightning bolt struck right in front of him. He felt funny, stumbled back into the condo and looked in the mirror and his hair was standing straight up on his head...lol

Tuesday night, I ran into one of the worse severe thunderstorms I've ever been in. Couldn't see 50 foot in front of you it was raining so hard, wind was whipping around, glad I was on a 4 lane with a turn lane because there was nowhere to get the truck and trailer off the road and stop, I had to just keep creeping along. I was running the inside lane beside the turn lane because the right lane was ponding and standing full of water. All of the sudden, I saw lightning strike a pole directly to my left and run down the pole to the ground. The bolt looked to be 4 inches wide at least, maybe more, and I felt the heat off of it through my closed truck window! I mean, I heard it pop, saw it, and it thundered at the same time. Scared the bejesus out of me! I have one of those battery operated thermometers on the dash with an outside sensor on the right mirror. It has a ice warning alarm on it that goes off beeping when the temp drops to around 36 degrees. The electricity in the air was enough to set that alarm off beeping and it was 75 degrees outside!

My sister was knocked of the front steps of our parent's home and was unconscious for a bit. And that, my friends is how she became a socialist.
