I tore into the ^rebuilt" 350 to find dished cast pistons w way down in the bore. Instead of running those, I bought a set of true flat tops with two valve reliefs and stock pin height....and a set of worked "pink rods". One of these days I will get this thing built.

Take your time, Flipper. No need to hurry. Sbc's are like fine wine; they get better with age. :D

Yes, rebuilder pistons frequently sit way down in the bore.

I am hoping the messed up quench area caused by the builder pistons is the reason that this motor never really ran like it should have .

Turns out, it had nothing to do with the quench area. The real problem was excessive cam walk due to a worn thrust surface on the block.

I built up my original block and the combo is awesome. The summit 1105 cam pairs nicely with the sportsman II heads and flat tops. The midrange power is nice. I can nail it at 20 mph and lay down 200 ft black marks!

I am convinced that this truck now wants to kill me. It wants to fishtail and lose control like a mustang gt leaving a cars and coffee.

Will slapper bars do anything to calm down the fishtailing?

It might, but it's hard to say as we can't see what it's doing.

If your axle is wrapping and unwrapping (common on S10 leafs with lots of power), then slapper bars may help, but cal-tracs will likely give you better control of the pinion angle and spring wrapping.

The ZQ8 package on later S10s included a "anti-hop shock" which went between the frame and the axle to prevent axle hop.

They also had a rear sway bar, which may help to keep things straight for you as well.

Are you running a posi or open diff?

Time for a wheel change on the truck? Or build a model A coupe drag car?

I bought them with the coupe in mind. 18x9.5 billet specialties legacy wheels and 305/45/18 drag radials that popped up on market place.
