The best place for an external electric pump pickup is coming out the side as close to the bottom as possible.
Not the optimal place but, you can put the pickup tube in the top as long as the external pump is at or below the bottom of the tank and as close to the tank as possible.

Thanks OI looks like that will be the plan

Man I can't believe what Ford building their truck bodies out of aluminum has done to the price of aluminum. I purchased half a sheet of 1/8" and a 30"x 30" of 1/16" and it was $220.

So the 1/16 was for the fan shroud which is complete, a very complicated piece to manufacture. The 1/8"is for the fuel tank and that will be the next project. I also had to replace the thermostat gasket as is was leaking and one of the new frost plugs in the side of the block.

Had my cardio workout this morning, it took an hour and forty five minutes of abusing the h#$l out of my DYI brake and my fat ole body to get four bends in the fuel tank shell. That 1/8 aluminum is tough stuff in a 37"length.

The $75. I spend building this thing was worth every penny.

My practice piece for fit and bending sequence on the brake so I didn't end up not being able to put the last bend in ( Bindaredonedat) I also did a little experimenting and used the plasma cutter to cut the sheet to size, I was really surprised how nice it cut.

This photo is the shell bent to shape, the seam is in the top right corner.

The next three are the shell in place in the frame after tacking the seam to confirm fit.

The last photo is the pattern for the end caps, I am also planning on two baffles about 10 inches in from each end.
