i have two small pieces of steel i want to connect.
can i use silver solder and a el cheapo propane torch?
this is for a small shotgun modification.
the joint will have little or no stress on it.

Yessir! clean both pieces to shiny metal, use flux designed for your silver solder, and a propane torch will be enough heat.

Depending on the solder,The silver kind used in AC work wont melt with just a regular propane torch.

Yes, that's right too. Some will work with a bic lighter too if you specialize...
If you have a hard kind, Mapp gas should do then. On a gun, I'd go with a softer silver solder and not so much heat if it's in an area that may see high heat like a barrel. I don't want to change the properties too much on a barrel.

yep,,

in NZ we call it easyflo...

easyflo 34 - 34% silver - high tensile strength (from memory)

id recommend a easyflo/ silverflo mattabraze. containing around 34% silver (ag) .. minimal temp range . good flow charactaristics, good joint fill ..

dammit I sound like a salesman !!
