Thanks for the details, Bob. :D

What about the '33 on a trailer? Same #331...

.

I can't be positive, Doc. Sure looks like Al's. If it is, he got the body from the Mallicote Brothers when he lived in California.

I wasn't involved with this car as I was newly married and making babies (fun) and raising them (full time commitment).

Thanks again, Bob.

Ya know Doc., in the last two batches of pictures you included four cars that I have: Anglia, Bantam, Crosley and Renault (in alphabetical order).

I 'preciate ya.[cl

Never saw a B fuel Altered run but I'd bet it would be a hoot. Like Junior Fuel dragsters.

About 12-13 years ago. My grandson and I went to the Fargo dragstrip for a nostalgia meet. Had a lot of rain but got a few passes in.

Doc, thanks for all the posts. I love them all.

Bob I thougt that looked like Fargo! Been there a few times myself. :D Was that the "new" track or still the old one? Very short shut down area there. I have more than one story of excitement there - having my parachute run over by the guy from the other lane, having my crew chief forget to pull the safety pin on the parachute and almost going off the end - stuff like that.

Something different X2...

The altered above is powered by a whittled down SBC... like a Tempest 4 cylinder, but it's not.

The same car with a blown Hemi 6, apparently burning alcohol...

If I recall correctly, the Hemi 6 was slated to replace the slant 6 in North America, but Chrysler decided against it. Chrysler Australia picked it up, finished development and put it into production.

Ask an expert, if you want to know. Right? So, Good Doctor, When did the altereds go form nose up to nose down? While standing still, that is. :D Mine is definitely of the nose down variety.

NHRA required the crankshaft centerline to be 24" or less. Racers raised the engine in the chassis, or raised the front end of the car to this limit for weight transfer. As better slicks were developed and traction compound for track prep came into general use, gaining traction through weight transfer wasn't so important. Cars got faster wind resistance and handling became a factor so down came the front ends and the engines. Also, wheelbases kept getting longer. When exactly, I can't say. Doc or Larry will know.

Larry, I was at Fargo only the one time. I don't know anything about the facility. Nice people though.
