What do you guys think about s10 axles. I have one, thought about welding tabs for the stock spring or maybe 4 link or parallel leaf. Any thoughts or share some good links on a similar setup?

You will hear all kinds of things about an S10 rear axle. I can tell you they are tough little pieces up to a point.
They won't withstand a lot of traction, high horse power and hard launches.

This car is just cruising. No drag racing or hard launches. I have a couple sbc 307s with automatics. Should be plenty of power for a car that ways less then a ton. Today I got a 48 Ford tie rod and ends. Had to cut it down and sleeve it as I don't have a 11/16 fine thread tap. The Drag link will need to wait until I extract the bracket from the old frame. I got a vega box for cross steer. I am going to use the S10 rear, with parallel leaf springs. I have been fooling around with transverse spring its not going to work with out hitting the brake lines. I found some front leaf springs from a 40 chevy truck. I removed the bushings and will find some polyethylene ones. Tomorrow I am going to try to get the stepup, 6 inches in the rear.

Kick up

Within reason, you won't have many problems with the s10 rear end. I'm using a small one (7.5) behind a 305/t350 in a 2500 lb truck. I don't launch hard,,,don't have to...:D

I also have no problems with the parallel leaf springs. The back portion of my frame is CJ5/DJ5 Jeep with the original springs left in place. Matched the saddles on the axle tubes and good to go.

I was not liking the weld penetration as I was getting further along. I have had the machine for ten years. Power has not always been good.in the shop. So I bought a Hobart. Welds ok. Need to use it more and get it dialed in.

Looks like a Vega steering box mount for cross steering. From the little bit of frame showing in the pic you can save it by trimming all the added pieces off and doing a better job of boxing it and adding motor mounts, steering mount , etc.

Bob, I have stripped all the original brackets from pages 1-3. This is a new 2x4 1/4 thick tube frame, no boxing required. The original frame had too many torch cuts and bad welding. Thanks for checking it out

I cut the original bracket for the vega box and welded it to the bottom.
This gave me a little more room for the engine brackets that I have not done yet.
I think it looks cleaner then just welding the whole plate on the frame.
