Head Help

The head i pulled off of my truck are 80-86, 305, 1.84/1.5 valves, 58cc chamber. Engine casting number is 3849852. Head casting number is 14014416

I am planning on putting in:

The cam:
Lunati Voodoo Hydraulic Flat Tappet (part number: 10120702LK)
Chevy Small Block 262-400
Lift: .468"/.489"
Duration: 262 Deg/268 Deg
LSA: 112 Deg
RPM Range: 1400-5800

The rocker arms:
Summit Racing Stamped Steel Roller Tip Rocker ArmsRocker Arms, Stud Mount, Rolle Tip, Stamped Steel, 1.6 Ratio, Fits 3/8 in. Stud, Chevy Small Block

Lunati Springs: 73943-16
Installed Height (in): 1.750 in.
Seat Pressure at Installed Height (lbs): 108 lbs.
Open Height (in): 1.250 in.
Open Pressure (lbs): 339 lbs.

Would all of this work well with each other...I was going to have the heads rebuilt but a buddy of mine said to scrap those heads they are junk and get better ones...but dont have that much money to buy better heads and I can get a good deal on a machine shop rebuilding the heads. What would you do...save up or have rebuilt?

I would search swap meets and cl for better factory heads to have rebuilt. You can almost buy sbc stuff at garage sales.

I agree. Those heads you have are good for door stops. Look around on craigslist or swap meets.

Yeah but by the casting # the engine is a 283.... So the smaller cc's would help compresion. And the valve size isn't that bad for the smaller bore.
Depending what you want to get out of it...

Im not building it to race or anything...I just want a good cruising engine that is dependable and can run on regular "unleaded".

My opinion would be to use those heads. Good for the 283 bore size and if they're 80-86 then ready for unleaded. Figure your 58cc head size and a 283 assume flat top piston you'll be around 9.0:1 compression.
Should be good running street motor.
