I've seen where people narrow 1 side of the 01 back explorer rear ends and install another short side axle. Does anyone know the total width, axle flange to flange, after doing this? Stock I think they are 59 1/2 inches and I need 55 or so. I need to get more tire under my 51 Dodge, and Mopar Rob put 12 inch wheels under his with a 55 in rear end and I was thinking this ought to put me close.

The difference between long and short side axles is just shy of 3''... 2.90'' give or take a few, should give you 56 1/2'' finished.
