Have you tried 16 gauge? We're rolling 18 gauge like nobody's business...

.

Hey Doc, I tried it on the the firewall, it is the same metal as the running boards. I had to go a little at a time and about 5 passes. I may try to put a couple ribs in the running boards, but the edge bends may not fit in the throat of the bead roller.

Thanks for the info, Dozer. I didn't think 16 gauge would be a huge gap to jump and we (obviously) haven't tried it... but since we're on the subject, the numbers say 16 gauge is 25% thicker than 18 gauge, which is clearly the breaking point!

BTW... I like the running boards smooth (they go well with the fenders.) Your firewall and Dodge logos look great as well! [cl

Thanks Doc, yup it is really heavy tin. I kinda like them plain to, but they may be pretty slippery when wet, but then there is the chance I could screw up the bead rolls and have to start over.[S

You could let your imagination run wild and weld strips on the boards pretty easy. They could be decorative. If all you are looking for is a little traction something simple could work! Possibly just in the areas one would normally try to step.

I've used that 3" non-slip tape that you put on stairs at businesses!

Cover them with bed liner.

Slammed with airbags... nobody needs to stand or step on the running boards!

All great ideas, maybe I should just put magnets on the the bottoms of the wife's shoes, she's the one i'm worried about.;)
Your right Doc they will only be an inch off the ground.:D

Steering is worked out. Post man brought me all the parts and pieces.

Used a 15" Chev pick up steering wheel for set up I think it's the perfect size, steers very easy.

A little more progress, 12 mounts the running boards to their frame brackets, no pictures.
And my second attempt at coming through the firewall with the steering column.

Tough getting time to work on the car, but got a little done.

Copper rivets came in, so I got the emblems installed.
