Interesting info on penetrants

the tractor resto guys have been swearing by the homebrew for years..I've heard lots of stories of getting "fence row" tractors loose after sitting out for decades..

I'm thinking a little diesel instead of all ATF. I always figured Liquid wrench was just perfumed up diesel anyway.

I grew up using my Dad's liquid wrench, so I still use it. PB Blaster never really impressed me much and WD40 was never billed as a penetrant, but a "Water Dispersant (recipe number 40...).The ATF/acetone makes sense but I gotta admit that I am surprised that it is that much better than Liquid Wrench. And I doubt that MM Oil would help much, but you could probably substitute it for the ATF with good results. The acetone is what is going to get the blend down into the rusty threads, so dont get rid of that. Just be careful. Acetone is bad medicine.

Coca-Cola works really well at getting motors unstuck. drop a rusty nail in a bottle of coke. see what it looks like when you take it out after a few days
