I'm thinking about painting my 350 Buick before it gets installed. Right now it is in pieces so painting it would be pretty easy. Problem is that I cant decide what colors to paint what parts. Block one color, heads different, intake aluminum, headers--black? I have black valve covers already--not sure if it's paint or anodized. I dont really want an orange or red block. Thinking something a bit different. Gold? Yellow? Right now my motor is 30 year old factory blue.
Let's hear what you think looks good. Show us your favorite color schemes for engines. Help me figure out what to do [dr

I agree, it needs to be something other than chevy orange or ford blue. I really like gold or the 50's buick nailhead green.

I wouldn't do the block one color and the heads another........I think they look so much better all one color. As for the color, the sky is the limit. Pick a color that ties in with the rest of the car or gives some contrast.

As for paint, you don't have to use engine enamel, you can spray it just like you would your body or frame. Just use epoxy primer and top coat it with whatever your favorite paint might be. They look better than bug bomb jobs and are easier to maintain.

I think your idea of block and heads the same makes sense. With black valve covers and aluminum intake, goldish carb, blackish headers, it might start to look like vegatable soup. BTW, what is a bug bomb job? That's a new one on me.

It is those aerosol spray cans of paint you buy at the auto parts store with various engine paints inside. Nickname is bug bomb. :D

Here are a couple of engines we did. This one was the first color my Son sprayed his Olds engine. Later he changed and it is now black.

And this is the engine and transmission I had in my 23. It is Fusion Orange.

And the Olds in my current project is off white.

I had a feeling bug bomb was a rattle can, but then I also figured you were talking about just spray cans for any engine paint job. Looking at the pics you put up I can see that is not the case to say the least. And I hadnt even considered painting the tranny. Yet. ;)

Heads & block need to be the same color, at least. Also, don't use something faddish - (is that a real word?) What I mean by that is something like aqua metallic, or some other color that is going to be out of favor as soon as you're done. I personally like a basic color that ties into the rest of the car. I also think there can be too much chrome - on any car. New, old, trailer queen, rat, too much chrome is played. Just my $.02.

I did mine the same color the cab of th truck is gonna be and this was sprayed out of a gun

The Orange motor is the buick 350 in my packard and this was out of a spray can I got it from TCP global it's a 3 stage (primer, paint, clear)

I looked at the pics before I read your post. I thought that looked like a Buick with the slanted front disty. Now I have something to shoot for! Very nice!

Thanx Rat'l Trap!! I also took the time and ground both my blocks and heads smooth with a die grinder and flap disc before I painted them :)

TCP Global has 4 or 4 different metallic engine enamels they are VHT paints (the buick motor)

Paint my 33 chevy

Ok I'm looking for some ides for paint on my 33 chevy 2 dr suden I don't want BLACK, I'm thinking tan or 2 flat colors and I don't want a black or engine.
So if anyone has any ides please send me some pictures. Thanks

My 49 Ford bobber is going to get mat black paint all over, including the engine. I have all of the original chrome and am looking for small pieces of chrome like used acorn nuts for the engine. It's a flathead V8.

Some people are tired of the black theme, I think the minimal contrast hi lights the colour of my eyes....

It all kinda depends on what color the car is gonna be. If the car will be black, think about matching your interior or wheel color. Gray, white, black, tan, or brown go with about anything.
