The frame came out great! [cl

Are the rails parallel or do they widen as they go towards the rear?

Thanks :D

It gets 2-1/4” wider from the firewall to the front of the doors, the same section where it drops 4” from the front rails to the floor rails.

Looking GREAT!!! Love the visor!!! I have a couple antique "2 man" saws... I'm planning on using one of them for a visor. I guess great minds think alike...

One of those old two man saws would be very cool. :D

We have so many of these old band saws lying around; I just had to find something to do with one. [ddev

Well it’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to get anything done on this, but finally made some more progress this past week.

My son has been rebuilding the Model A axle assembly. We got new spindles, kingpins, etc. from Speedway. The hardest part was getting all the old stuff off, once we did, the new stuff installed quick and easy.

I finished up the saw-blade visor and installed it.

We also cut some mock up wheels/tires out of plywood so we could start planning the suspension parts.

I also cleaned up the seat frames, welded up any seams and cracks then got a good coat of primer on them. I have one old cushion to use as a template, so I guess that will be the next step on them.

Not a lot, but still progress. :)

Everything is coming along nicely. Cool visor.

Thanks!

like the visor alot. i also like how you put db in there.

Thanks!
That old Dodge Brothers logo worked out pretty good. I had it drawn out with the Star of David like they used on the old logos, but it looked Satanic so we scraped that and just went with the DB. [ddev

We got the brakes on the front axle assembly. The brackets from Speedway JUST clear the king pin assembly, but it does clear.
We are going to have to make spacers (Made one out of wood to see how thick we needed, that’s the white thing in the first pic) to get the wheels out far enough to clear the calipers.
Overall, I’m liking the way it looks so far :)

HELP

OK, I need some help/advice on how to set the front axle. [S

We have it sitting where we want it; radius rods are clamped to the frame where we would like to attach them. Obviously the spring will squat down once the weight of that Hemi is on it.

What I need to know is, what angle do I set the axle at? Then, how do I properly go about getting that angle?

I figure the spring will settle down to the height we want with the load on it, but I don’t know if that will change the angle or ?

I appreciate any ideas and suggestions on how to proceed. :)

Thanks.

you want about 7 degrees of positive (leaning back) caster on the front axle. you can do this by putting an angle finder on the kingpin area and leaning the axle back (or dropping the radius rods) untill you get about 7 deg. I would say you will get about 1 1/2"-2" of drop when the weight of the engine squats the front end. If you have the ride height of the frame where you want it then set your axle, caster and radius rods to where you want it. Then figure out where you want your spring mount afterwards. That way when the axle rotates back to the 7 degrees your spring will move back as well and you wont get into any spring bind. you can either lift your frame 2" from ride height to weld on your spring mount or just leave the frame where it is and drop the mount 2" down from where the spring is now at rest. I hope this helps. Just my $.02

Thank you! :D
I’ll try getting it set up to this tonight and see how it looks.

Well we got everything set, had 7 degrees at the king pins and everything looked good. :)

Then we realized we didn’t have enough room for our steering arm behind the axle, so we moved it all out another 4”.

This put the spring too far out from where we wanted, so we are going to move the spring back and mount it off the radius rods. [;)

So, hope to be ready to try it all again in a few days. :)

Ok, we made some progress this past weekend. [cl

Tacked on the new spring mounts to the radius arms and set the axle to 7 degrees. It all looks good and we just need to make the center spring mount to attach to the frame. :D

Also got some of the rear suspension tacked in and able to get the dimensions we needed to figure out what else to make. [;)

We attached the trans to the motor and got them squared up and sitting where we want them then welded the motor mounts to the frame. Still need to make the cross member for the frame, but this made it possible to see what that cross member needs to be. [;)[;)

We know one thing after all this; our drive shaft is going to be REALLY short. ;)

Great looking build, I also like the visor. You're in my son's area, (Niangua) I'd like to see this beast in person also, I try to get to Niangua about once a month. Not that far for me I live in Lowry City, Mo. About 108 miles away... Keep up the good work..[cl
