building a tbucket

have a 52 merc flathead and a mercomatic tranny and have found a 9 inch
rear end with 2.75 to 1 gears. can anyone tell me how this would perform
looking more at drivability than getup and go.

thanks to everyone that responded to my first entry into this site! I am new
to this but have a lot of mechanical experience due to my well drilling business
but still have many questions and appreciate any advice i can get.
just begining to piece things together after finding the donor car a 52
mercury four door sedan. will try to sell left over parts eventually. I still need
to come up with a frame for a 27 tbucket that i want. would like a bed of
about 36 inches on it. using a stainless keg for the tank which will take up some room in the bed. A good way to remove the smell of the keg is to put
2 boxes of baking soda and 2 or 3 gallons of water in it and slosh it around
and let sit overnight and rinse it out, worked great for me.

Welcome to the site. We build a lot of T Bucket stuff. The rear end from an S10 truck works great.

thanks, I have visited your site and planned to give you a call as soon as I
have everything lined out and business improves to allow it. has been tough
on any type of construction operation for awhile and now the price of diesel
to operate equipment is not helping a bit.

picked up a rear end from a merc mountaineer today, I think it will be a better unit. has 3.55 to 1 ratio and disc brakes. only about 55 inches wide.
cool here about 45 here this morning.

rear end from salvage yard turned out to be a dud. removed the cover and it had water in it and lots of rust. they will exchange it but this semed the best choice by many miles and looks. will keep trying.

thanks, I am really learning a lot on this forum and enjoying researching what
I am trying to do. like typing it is definately the hunt and peck method. Just
hope some of this will stick in a few brain cells at least before they get to soft
and leak out all info. it has already got to the point that I have to forget a
few things to have room to remember something new.
picked up another 8.8 yesterday and this is a keeper, needs 1 wheel bearing
and seal then clean it up and paint it.

for anyone in this area, Capital Auto Parts in Thomasville, ga. was great in
exchanging this rear end and helping me on the yard finding a good one.

have a rusty 27 roadster pickup body but can't make up my mind to use it
or buy a fiberglass body. I want a longer bed than the little short one. But mine would take a lot of labor to make a decent T.[
It would have to be fixed up at least enough for my wife to ride in it.
also plan to use an air cooled auto tranny. Any experience with one? all i have
asked about it here say they were good ones.

how wide does a t bucket frame need to be? Thanks
