Nice sun roof. It should also help keep the rear tires on the ground at 100mph+. :D [cl

I don’t think I’ll be seeing 100mph often if ever. With the little ford y and 3.73 gears in the limited slip Dana 44, I’ll be stocked if it does 70mph comfortably.

Everyone else, thank you for the kind words. This car has been a lot of fun to build.

Anyhow, got more of the roof tackled and made some handles today. Still need to install the latches but I will attempt that tomorrow. Might have to pull the insert out again and hammer down the edges a little bit to get everything to fit snug but I’ll have to see how it all looks and fits with the latches installed.

Nothin real new to report today. Did a little bit of work on her this morning but then sat there trying to figure out latches for the roof. I’m having issues with finding anything that’ll work for pulling the panel down against the roof and still not interfere with headroom. I’m almost thinking of using some pieces of chain and having it roll over slightly and pull back to latch.

Got the roof finished, minus the latches today. Those should be in on Monday. So, I’ll get the latches installed probably Tuesday. This weekend there’s a camp out in Missoula I will be attending so no work on the car over the next few days.

So, while I was out west for the weekend, I got on the ol’ Inter webs looking for stuff for her car. Came across a pair of old ET Mag front runners for 100 bones. Decided to call the folks up to see if they still had them. Sure nuff they had em still and even had a full set of Mickey Thompson bias ply tires for an extra 175 and they only have maybe 1000 miles on them. So yeah, couldn’t pass them up either. All in all just under 300 for some rare front wheels and a set of tires. My only complaint is the guy attempted to start cleaning one wheel incorrectly and it’ll take even more work than the other to clean up and polish than the other. Now, I need to get a set of stupid wide rear wheels but she’s gonna be rollin in style with this setup.

A little rake adjustment would lift the cowl off the floor. How tall are the fat rear Mickeys? If you raise the rear, you might appreciate the new attitude and stance...

The big mickeys are 29x15-15Lts. So they’re about 1” shorter than the 235/80r16s that I currently have on it. I mocked up the car with the 235s cause that’s what I had lying around. That’s why I’m thinking of adding back the rest of the springs to the pack and going with some taller tires up front and maybe 31x10.5s in the rear.

I think I understand your thinking... taller tires all around would keep the killer stance you have! [cl

Got the sunroof latches made this morning. They work pretty well but I’m going to add a piece of round stock to the edge that the chain rides on to pull it down a little bit more rather than just towards the back. So I’ll do that tomorrow and then start working on the trunk area. Because there isn’t much storage space in a coupe and because I do plan on taking this one on a few long trips, and because it wouldn’t be one of my builds without one, I am adding a receiver to the rear of the frame to tow a small trailer. Once I get that done, I can start on the trunk framework and skins.

Anyway, enough of my planning, here’s the current latches.

Looking good! You said those tires only have 1000 miles on them, do you know the date code though? As I know a lot of people have experienced road failures of outdated tires, used tires scare me a bit these days. In any case it sounds like you may not end up using them anyways.

My parents have a little fiberglass trailer they tow behind their Model A Tudor on long trips for luggage and tools. Even on a Tudor, getting luggage in and out of the back seat is an annoyance, and the little fiberglass trailer that matches the car works very well. It's on torsion springs and light enough that on a really rough road it will get airborne.
