1942 Olds Dynamic Cruiser Model 76

Lookin' it over !

Liking it , local car, only about 65k miles

Runs good but original will Hydromatic will shift 1-2 no 2-3 or 3-4.

Gonna take a while to drive home at 25 mph in second (about 15 miles).

No radio or heater, only option was Hydromatic.

Nice steering wheel, no cracks

Might need a little interior work.

Made it home although it got a bit hot screaming at 3000 rpm in 2nd

Too many projects, so I sell it.

The man I sold it to bought for his brother who was having troubles using drugs.

I learned that the man I sold it to bought for his brother who was having troubles using drugs partially disassembles the car and leaves it in the basement and then shortly after ends up in prison on drug charges.

1/11/2012

The man I sold it to sells it to someone in Maine. The transport truck shows up and the car is partially disassembled and will not haul it.
The frustrated new buyer gets in touch with me and I buy it back for scrap metal price.

10/1/12

I pull the tired engine and trans and sell it on eBay.

Considered another SBC and decided nahhhhh !
Olds deserves an Olds drivetrain.

I find on Craigslist an 89 Cadillac with 307, 2004R. no title for $500. 126k miles A/C and cruise still work, drive it home.

2/5/2013
After pulling front clip and building motor and trans mounts and I finally get the 307, 2004R untouched, going. Easy fit, used Trans Dapt biscuits for motor cushions. A little tight around steering box/ column and brake m/c. Offset engine 1/2" to right for clearance on left exhaust.

Over the next few months I strip the 89 Cadillac of all useful parts. Sell front doors. Sell cat converter. Scrap out a straight rust free body.
End up with a net of only $200 in the motor and trans.

After 8 years of not moving and going flat, the new tires from 2004 are severely flat spotted, temporarily put old 53 Pontiac tires on. Now it doesn't vibrate like crazy.

With a razor blade I scrape the navy blue and discover the light metallic blue original paint underneath.

I like it. It looks a lot like the first car I took apart when I was 10. I believe it was a 46 Olds fordor. Fond memories. :D

Some homemade seat covers.

Lots of light surface rust underneath.

The 307 looks like it always belonged there.

Rebuilt dual master cylinder from 64 Rambler American, 1" bore like original, only $30.
Adapter bracket can be removed to reinstall original style master cylinder.

Lets see where this goes. :D

Original back glass, nah that won't work, wrong curvature for new shape.

Maybe take the rear quarter windows and frames, rotate them 90 deg and reverse sides. I think I will use the rear door frames and glass, don't want to throw them away.

Now we need a truck bed.

Let's blow the dust off the Autocad 2000 and see what happens.

Might as well have some underfloor storage too.

Oh, and a tailgate, make it strong.
