Hi everyone!! [dr

This is my very first build.

I'm lacking some and a lot of knowledge in areas but really happy I found this website to ask questions and seek opinions from others.

Let's get back to my project.... I picked up a 350 Chev small block that came out of a '69 Pontiac 2+2. Only had 100k miles on it and the engine is in mint condition. I've stripped it down and have recently started replacing the bottom end with parts from Summit Racing.

I recently found a '32 Chev 2dr Coach in a farmers field. After looking around and talking with him he decided to sell the body & we also found the frame in his barn. I only paid $300... which I don't think is that bad of a deal.

**The farmer also had an original 1934 Ford that he stored in his barn since 1982. Needless to say he wouldn't part with it.

Let me know what you think and where I should start with the build.

cool

looks to be in about the same shape as my 193OISH dodge when we started it.

l see it has "air conditioned" bullet holes:D

suspension, trans,rear-end and/or fenders & hood:confused:

defiantly tuned in for this one[;)

Later

Not sure what I want for a suspension yet.... transmission I'm still looking... rear end might be either a Ford 8 or 9".

No fenders or hood for this guy!!

Funny story... my buddy and I were driving it home and it was raining allll day. As you can see from the pictures how dark it was. I was in the passenger seat and start freaking out... Oh my god! OH MY GOD RAY!!.... WHAT?!?!? WHAT IS IT!?!?.... WE LEFT THE WINDOWS DOWN!!!.... I'm taking you home. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D

Chevy in a Pontiac. OK, spill it... where are you from?

.
LOL.... I know, I know!!

I honestly think it's a pontiac engine too... but everything I've looked up keeps telling me it's a Chev engine. I call it a chev because everyone can relate to that... other than saying... wtf are you talking about? then it's a long winded story

SBC

that is a small block chevy in the picture. the valve covers, the way the exhaust is, intake, water pump, motor mounts, fuel pump, timing chain cover, oil pan, if the oil filter is on the driver side, starter on the passenger side & the distributor all point toward SBC.

l put a 327 SBC in my 67 Pontiac Lemans, so l bet some one changed the motor over to chevy sometime in it's life before you got it.

Later

Here's the thing... the engine stamp and vin are telling me that this engine was built for a '69 pontiac 2+2 though, so there isn't any doubt in my mind it's the original engine for that car. Maybe the 2+2 came with a chev engine unlike the GTO.

canada

was the Pontiac built in Canada? l think they did that, put chevy engines in all GM products.

here is a pontiac 326/389, notice the difference in the valve covers, timing chain cover, intake has a valley pan, fuel pump on driver side, exhaust, heads and the water neck just mention a few.

Hummmm.... now you have me wondering if it was or not. The engine was built in Tonawanda, NY but I'm from Ontario and that's where the car was purchased.

Interesting theory.

Looks like a great start, I paid 300 for mine and it was nearly bent in half. Brace the body before the wood gets gutted. :). In my build I put steel in place, it wasn't to bad of a process.

Best places to brace it?? can you also square the body at this time??

It's going to have to sit for a bit until I get my frame built but it gives me something to do on my budget

I chopped the roof before input any permanent bracing in, took the best measurements I could, once the chop was done I braced it, keeps everything looking clean. I did put 1x2 in for the rockers to maintain the bottom of door gap. Then measured the top to pull it out as needed when the roof was off

This is why I asked where you're from. :D

skull gets it. [cl

In Canada, Pontiac used Chevy drivetrains and chassis from '58-'70. As your numbers indicate, it is the correct and original engine for the 2+2. (GTO's and Firechickens were not produced in Canada... those models were imported and had genuine Pontiac power.)

Half a clapper for skull... Buicks and Oldsmobiles were pure Buicks and Oldsmobiles, no goofy cross-breeding.

.

Finally got things rolling here... Completed my build of a rolling platform. True rat rodder style it's built with the scrap wood I found in my shed :D

Going to brace the body next to prevent any twisting. Then it's back to working on the engine... Need to save my moola for a new welder.

If you haven't seen it already take a look at my thread in the welding section for any ideas on what I should purchase.

Question... How do I get the doors square & lining up properly? I want to put in a suicide hinge.
