You're making a job that a lot of people wouldn't even tackle look easy.
I know exactly what you're talking about that guy that knows how to weld showing up now and again. In my case when it's good it's good but when it's bad it's way bad. I try to find something else to do then.
Keep beatin on it!![cl[cl[P[P[cl[cl

Thanks POP.
It looks the guy that knows how to weld stuck around.[ddd :p
Finished up the front floor area.
Full welded in the quarter panel replacement piece. [;) [;) [;) [;)
I'm happy with how it turned out overall and really happy with that seam along the door edge.
Last pic shows whats up next on the floor.
I may do this area from underneath.
Thanks for stopping by.

p.s. Duke out pondering the possibilities.:)

Excellent work Torchie[cl[clLooks like Duke isn't impressed by the snow. We get very little snow, but when we do our four dogs act like little kids.

Thanks bruno.:)
One of my past dogs, Maggie, was part Newfie. She loved the snow and would have stayed outside all winter if I had let her.
I was getting ready to work on the PS inner wheel well and decided I had better check the fit with the fender first.
Per the DS, this patch panel needed a bit of reshaping as well.
Since I've got the fender tacked on I will go ahead and do the sectioning .
This is a big, awkward pice of metal to handle by myself. Notice the use of the lift strap to hold it in place in the first pic.:D*
With it tacked in place I can layout and cut the sectioned piece out from a sitting position.[cl [cl
I need to do a little hammer and dolly work on some spots too.
This is a NOS fender that was gifted to me by a good friend and fellow custom car builder.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas everyone.

Laid out the fender section and made the cuts today.
I'll tack it together tomorrow as its only around 18 degrees here today.
Hope all are enjoying their Christmas.

Anybody that would cut up a NOS fender.....

Is smart enough to start with good rust free material! [ddd[ddd[ddd

Looks like it was made to be cut there. With my luck, it would have never fit and would have had gaps big enough to throw a house cat through!

Thanks for all the positive comments.:)
Look at the 3rd pic for a example to go with your "Throw a house cat through" comment. Bama. :p [ddd It still happens.
My gaps are tighter then some make but there is still a gap. I know the welds penetrate as when I look at the back side i see it.
Also. I don't grind my welds flat to the metal as I skim coat everything and then block the crap out of it.
I was a body man. Never a metal shaper like our friend dutch.[;)[;)

I always try to learn something when I do stuff and I learned from doing the DS rear fender and applied it to the PS.
The main differences are...
The lower cut at the rear went further forward on this side.
I made a jog cut at the front and on the DS I went straight through.
I also made the long cut a bit higher off of the fender lip.
And perhaps the most important lesson. I did the PS with the fender hanging on the car instead of trying to wrestle with a cut apart fender on the table.
The end results were the same but with less cursing.:p
So off with the clamps and on with the tacks.
Thanks for looking in on me....
Keep on keeping on.

Thanks Bman.
Torchies winter welding wear.:eek::D
Fully welded the fender and gave it a quick first grind.
Tomorrow it comes off and I work on the PS inner wheel well.

Fender off.
Good penetration on the welds.:D [;) [;) [;)
I'm tackling the PS inner well from the inside this time.
But some bracing back in. The trunk floor is still solid but with out that lower lip area it wants to flex when I set the body down on the 55 gallon drum. When I untacked the trunk lid it popped up out of place. Untacked and back where it belongs with the body off the strap and resting on the drum.:D
This lower lip is a bloody mess. Some one used a tractor bucket to lift this body and smashed this all flat.
Fixing this will be another story.[;) [;) [;)
Thanks for visiting....

Started to reverse engineer the bottom lip area of the trunk opening.
Now wonder this area on these cars all rot out.
Many different pieces layered together and spot welded. The perfect moisture traps.. :(
I will need to fab up the lip as well as the channel for the weather strip. None of this from the donor car is really useable.
Time to get some metal together..[;) [;) [;) [;)
