Got some POR 15 and then a good coat of undercoating on the inside of the fender.
....

I'm curious what you use for undercoating. Is it the old-style tar-based stuff?

I undercoated my 46 Plymouth with that sort of stuff back in 1980 or 81 (used a spray gun my Dad borrowed from the Olds dealer where he was working at the time), and was able to paint over it with enamel, but it cracked all up when I went over some with lacquer. (I just painted over it where I put it down inside the car - that with enamel, and also did the rear wheel wells, and painted over that with the finish lacquer color. That's where it 'checked'. Underneath I just left it unpainted.)

I use "Chip guard", Neto.
It's the stuff they use on exterior rocker panels. Takes paint if needed. I used it for years and find I like it better then traditional undercoating.:D

TOO hot to grind today so I carried in one of the spare doors from the pile into the shop.
Didn't even need to pop a Nitro so I was off to a good start.
These doors have everything that my doors are missing.
Only needed to drill out one screw. So that wasn't too bad either.
To get the wing vent out the main glass needs to be out.
Of course it was stuck tight so I turned to alternative methods.:D
I'm going to redo the tops of my doors using the tops from these doors. I never had things like spare doors or a roof when chopping so It's something new for me.
That's it for now. Perhaps the other door tomorrow.
Keep on keeping on...

p.s.
In the pic of the pin that holds the door handle on you will see a finishing nail next to it. That is a "Tempered" finishing nail. My favorite tool to tap out pins and such with.:D

Thanks. I figured as much. I don't think they had that stuff yet when I did mine, or maybe I just didn't know about it yet. My car had never had any undercoating - I did it because at the time I was building it as a daily driver.

Door number 2.
This one still had the handle as well as the lock.
Can't pull the latch out until I remove the handle and the lock. Clip that held the lock in was rusted in place and the handle wouldn't turn to get to the mounting screws.
Cut out the lock and suddenly the handle turned as well.[cl
All's well that ends well.

Just in case you all thought I had given up...

Made it back out to the local yard yesterday.
Welcome to the wilds of Northern Michigan.
Yes. There are cars in that.:D
Scrounged up these parts.
49 Dodge grill and hood latch panel.
Hood hinges and cross brace.
Rear quarter window Garnish Mouldings.
Interior sun visor brackets.
Rear window garnish mouldings. And I grabbed the windshield garnish as well but it is pretty thin from exsposure.
I did NOT get the dash as I need to cut it out due to frozen fastner's but we will be going back for that once in cools off next week.
I also found a 51 near by that , as per usual, is missing half of the windshield trim. It does have a complete dash though. Not sure I like it better then the 49 though.
SO i'm still in search of the inner and outer windshield trim.
Going to be up in the high 80's and low 90's here this week so don't know how much of anything I will get done.
Thanks for checking up on me.
Keep on keeping on......Torchie

Thanks gang.:D
Well. I had one of those "aha" moments today.
The car I got the parts from in the local junk yard is a 49 Dodge Wayfarer.
Mine is a Coronet.
My understanding is that the Wayfarer was the economy priced Model.
Same as the Coronet from the firewall forward. A shorter wheel base and body tub from the fire wall back.
Plus. If its a "Fast back" it also has a lower roof height.
Pic 1-3. Stock 49 Dodge Wayfarer. Notice anything interesting????
NO trim around the windshield. Just a rubber seal.
Explains why there was no trim on the one in the yard. Also explains why some one I contacted on e-bay told me they had a Dodge Coronet center windshield piece but it was pot metal when all the Coronet pics I see show it to be Stainless steel.
Pic 4-6. The pot metal center piece I got from Junkyard Betty. :D [cl
The up shot being that if I can't find or afford the outside SS trim on the windshield I can use this center piece and just go with the rubber seal showing.
Even with the Wayfarer's shorter roof height I will still have to trim this down a bit.

Pic 7. This is the quarter window inner trim from Junkyard Betty. The Wayfarer quarter window was way longer then the Dodge 2 door Coronet.
I will be able to cut this down to work on mine.
I feel better about the windshield situation now.
Keep on keeping on....

Thanks all.
For some more detective work take a look at my post in the Hemi engine section.
I talking to all you Hemi gurus out there.
Also. Had the stitches pulled from my finger today. I did one myself but couldn't see the other 2 well enough so made a quick trip back to the local er.
They were busy gearing up for the Holiday visitors.

In my continuing effort to stay cool I’ve been sitting in the shade and scanning e bay for 49 Dodge Coronet parts and came across a dash for sale.
The seller only wants $2500 for it.😳
I hope my local junk yard owner doesn’t see that before I go back to get mine out of junk yard Betty 🙀😎

Is it connected to a running car??[S

No to all of the above😳
Dutch and Kenny. No Hemi and it’s attached to a car alright but so are some of the overpriced others parts he has listed as well.
I don’t usually complain about people’s prices I just don’t buy them.
Thanks Skip but like all my customs it’s time period sensitive and a 59 dash would push it into a different style of custom.
I’m seeing this one as something built around 54-55. Less of the more traditional custom touches like skirts and spotlights. And more of the style leading into the mid to late 50’s.
Sectioned. No skirts and most likely no spotlights to disrupt the flow. No speed boat stance or at least not much if one.
Of course all that could still change🙀
