Full story to come later today :D

Sorry for the delay, but I thought it was going to take till 6:00. :D

So I went in and talked to the farmer and his wife was the person making the money decisions. As soon as I expressed interest the Hudson and the light green IHC with the grain box became valuable, I'm okay with the Hudson not something I wanted, but that IHC I really wanted. They did sell me 5 of the wrecks as they called them for a pittance.

The first three were real easy to get home, but the Jail House Ford and the 1.5 ton dark green IHC took some chain saw skills. here's the picture trail

IHC

IHC, Jailbar, Merc M68, Yellow ford cab, GMC cab and clip, The Buick is so grown in and surrounded by old combines I'd need a helicopter to get it out.

Gotcha. I get confused when the count goes past three. ;) :D

The y-block is interesting... how do you know it's a Lincoln?

.

I don't think it is a Lincoln Y-block, just an ordinary Ford. The Lincoln would have double ribs cross-ways on either side of the holddown nuts for the valve covers.

I'm a big fan of both the '42-'47 trucks and the Y-block motors, so you have my vote.

Dads '37 Ford still has two of those aggressive tread tires on, Dr. C, from hauling on the Alaska highway when they were building it.

An older wiser friend of mine said he thought it was a Lincoln Y block because it has a four barrel barb and the air cleaner. Myself I have no idea.[S

Older maybe... Lots of 292 and 312 engines had 4 barrels. No Y block was ever that color AFAIK (so probably rebuilt or at least painted) and the gold air cleaner is probably 58 or newer.

Thanks for the info

Interesting. Does the Y-block turn, Dozer?

Good to see you, Mac. Do you have your father's '37???

.

No it's locked up

Dozer, your friend was thinking that the factory put Lincoln Y-block motors in big trucks, and he's right, somewhere in the mid fifties to the mid-sixties. Some ordinary person pulled the tired flathead out of this '46-'47 and slipped in a Ford Y-block, making the truck come alive, [with double the horsepower]. That could be a Mercury Y-block, with the four barrel and gold air cleaner. Here are two pictures of my Merc Y's. The all together one is a fifty-five Meteor 292, [Ford body with a Mercury motor and different grille], and the torn apart motor is a fifty-six 292 that I bought in 1966. I painted the air cleaner black in about 1968. Both air cleaners were gold to start with.

Dr. C, yes, we still have parts of Dad's '37. Here's the tires and the cab. I started to make a hay trailer out of the frame and rearend, but never finished. I was too young, [once upon a time].

Over on the pork site there is a 55 Ford F-800 for sale. The ad says it has a 317 Lincoln Y-block in it. It's a beautiful truck. If I ever sell my 37 Dodge I am going to entertain buying it to pull my car trailer and my wifes live in horse trailer.
