Hey guys,

I'm curious, what's the difference between a carb that is egr compatible and one that isn't? There are no choices over 600cfm other then quadrajet that say with egr. Is it the size of the carb or does something from the egr connect to the carb? I didn't see anything running from the egr system to the carb when i glanced at it the last time i was under the hood on my vette. If i can, I'd like to go with with a 650 or 670 aftermarket carb until I can get the time to go for it with a quadrajet and my quadrajet hot-rodding guide. The carb that's on it right now is a quadrajet but it's a remanfactured holly. Everything I read tells me the remanfactured ones are not that great and I doubt this one has been tuned to the car, giving so so performance. Anyways, I'm done rambling. Shoot any recommendations on carbs my way as well if you think you know what would be best. thanks guys!

some more rambling :D

1. Has anyone tried a proform carb? They look pretty cool, but are they worth the extra dough? Something tells me no but my gut could be wrong.

2. I've always wondered about the holly truck carbs? Hear me out. They have a 670cfm street carb and a 670cfm truck carb. The truck carb is supposed to be able to handle extreme angles. One thing i've always hated about my edelbrock (on my truck) is that it bogs down on hard corners (don't ask :D). Being that this is a vette i want it to handle as much as i want it to go straight. won't do much good if the carb can't handle it. I'm thinking the truck carb would be better suited for the corners, however, i'm wondering how it's better suited to the corners. is it more restrictive to fuel flow in a straight line? this may be a question for holley but i thought i'd throw out there for you experts. :D thanks guys.

that makes sense, for some reason I assumed it was running lean and not too rich at angles but I guess it would be the opposite if thats how the carb is set-up.

Check the model number of your holley. I had one on a 72' Chevelle. It was a direct quadrajet replacement. Good carb but only flowed 450 cfm, so it was a "dog" on hard acceleration.

The other replacement Holleys flow 600-650 but the fuel bowls usually don't allow a stock air cleaner.

Edelbrock makes a carb for Q-jet application and flows 750 with a hot air choke and is compatible with EGR. It's an M4M....EDE 1903 Cost is about $450

My problem is that I've read nothing but bad things about reman carbs. Ideally, I'd like to get a junk yard quad and pump it up. But i know i wont get that done forever, so I'd like something for now. What is the difference between an egr carb and a non-egr carb? The holly street avenger 670cfm says it has all the smog ports but does not list as being egr compatible. See where I'm confused? Thanks dude!
