Got quite a bit done today. Had To cut the frame to get some drop, I'm not sure how much the 390 will squat it down. It's still to high. I might put 2x2 square tubing in between the rails for more drop. I'm going to plate both sides so I'm not worried about the cuts.

PC or Phone?

I ALWAYS post from PC and use "Paint" or "Windows Photo" to edit/rotate/resize.

I'd be happy to flip them for you, if you're pulling your hair out!

.

I can't fix them. All I have is a cheap tablet. I had it turned the wrong way taking the pictures. I figured it out for the next time.

Flipped.

I got them right side up on my phone but couldn't change the ones I previously posted. I know what I'm doing now.

I put the weight of the motor & tranny on the frame before setting up the pinion angle... makes a big difference!

I have a fe ford question. I'm getting ready to start ordering parts, oil pump, gasket set, cam, ect, and was wondering about the cam lift. Turns out it's a 360 and not a 390 but thats ok. Comp cams has the thumper cam kit with timing chain, valve springs, lifters. 278/296 with .515/.501 lift. I'm not familiar with the fe ford and was wondering if that's too much lift? The old boat anchor ran good but I'd never go though all the trouble putting it in and not going through it while it's out. I'm not building a race car but I'd like it too sound mean. I have a cast 4 barrel intake, 600 Holley, hei distributor, and lake headers with a 3.73 gear with 295/50s. I just don't know how much lift a fe can handle without valve reliefs.

Generally speaking, Thumpr cams are oversized and often sacrifice power for sound. I know nothing about 360 Fords, but the efficiency/flow rate of your cylinder heads is a major factor... lift isn't everything and your heads might "run out of breath" past .480, for example.

Call Comp cams and give them your specs.

.

I'm more less looking at the sound. I doubt very seriously if I'll ever have the truck over 55, just a weekend cruiser/ grocery getter that sounds wicked. I just don't want to buy a cam too big and have a valve hit a piston. I'm sending the heads out Monday to the machine shop, valve job and shaved .010. I bought a c6 for it for $150 and it's costing me $600 for a rebuild. My boss has a rebuilt 429 and c6 for $1000 but I like the looks of the fe engine a lot more. The cam comes with springs but I don't know if I'd need adjustable rockers and/ or notched pistons.

I'm a Ford fan and opiniated, so I'll offer some food for thought. The 360 ci. FE did the most in history to bring the Ford Company to it's knees. Not because it ever broke down or wore out easily, but because it had very little horsepower for it's size. I think the way Ford reached this disasterous invention was to lower the compression, so I think the pistons don't come anywhere near the open valves. Like Doc C. says, talk to Comp Cams and see what they say; they'll know.
I'm not surprised that the guy who sold you that pick-up said it was a 390 instead of a 360.

You will like the performance of the 429 better. What will it cost to build the 460 into a pretty-to-look-at slug? Something to think about.

It's not going to take much horsepower to pull this truck. I'm not a big guy and I picked the back of the truck up while my son put jack stands under it. It would be hard to get traction with a four cylinder. We have a built 30 model A at work with a 454 and can stomp on it at 60mph and roast the tires. It's way too much for me.

We are all forgetting to factor in that even a 360 probably has 200 horse-power, so you will have a hundred extra horses to play with.
I tried to find a picture of my FE chrome valve covers that are tall, flat on top, and have Mercury scrolled into them. They will pretty up an FE, even if it's a 360.

Love them covers. The 360 pulled the 71 around pretty good with only 200 horses and with about 2000 lbs less weight, I think it will be fine. Maybe later on I'll buy a 428 crank and 390 pistons and make a 410ci. Adding a cam, 4 barrel, hei and headers will wake up the 360 too. I'll be happy if the old ford runs with my 03 LeSabre.
