Started shaping the new SB side Chine.
I cleaned up the surface that mates to the frames.
The last Pic shows what the opposite side surface (The side the bottom planks attach to)will have to look like. It has to flow with the frames for a fair bottom.
This is going to be a real process with lots of fitting and trimming. I don't want to have to make this piece again.

Utilizing a break in the action to get some more shaping done on the SB side chine.
This piece needs to fit tight and flat to the chine landings at the frame knees.
I'm doing this free hand with a hand held power plane.
The areas where the chine meets the frames will get bedded with 3M 5200 so that no moisture can get in between the pieces.

Started to trim down the PS chine today.
Used a Fein Multitool. These have become a go to toll for many boat restorers. This one was a present from my daughter and her guy.
The 16 gauge sheet steel act like a guide to get the correct angle on the chine and leaves the chine just proud enough for me to clean it up with a hand power plane.
keep on keeping on...

Dang, look at all those holes
[P[P[P

LOL. I had almost forgotten how many screws I had to take out,OI.
Now I'm reminded of how many will have to be put back in. [ddd
A bit of pattern work today. Making sure that when I trim the new chine for width i'm not screwing up.:D
The last pic shows the V trench I will have to cut into the new chine as we approach the bow. I will have to sort of eyeball this as it changes depth and angle about every 2 inches.

Out in the shop working on the boat today.
More shaping of the port side chine bottom. This is the surface that the bottom planks attach to.
Once this is finished I will trim down the width.
It's getting there......

What tools do you use to make the chine surface so uniform and smooth?

Hand held power planner OI. I also use a manual Bench plane for touch up's.Just like grandpa used to use.:D
If I had a better band saw ( And eyes ) as well as a helper I could have used that to get the chine closer to the level it needed to be . It takes longer this way but the end results will be the same. Hopefully. [ddd
More shaping this morning. Up closer to the bow and dealing with the curve.
I'm going to temp screw the OG planks back down and start to trim the width of the chine next.
Thanks for looking in........
