smokin' bulb

i just finished up a total rewire on my 53 hudson. it is 6 volt pos ground. i asked several places but have yet to get a answer so i thought i would try here. i found 2 used headlight bulbs from parts cars and one of them smokes on the inside of the sealed bulb when it is turned on. i haven't left it on for a long time, but i just wondered. is the bulb just going out ot is it some other problem? thanks if anyone knows. sorry i'm no electrical whiz and this might be a simpleton question.

the lamp lost it's seal so the filament is no longer in a vacuum and it's smoking because it's burning itself out. [S

Ya might as well change it.

I would agree with the above posted info, most likely somehow the vacuum has been lost, probably very slight, as it would jsut burn out right away with no vacuum I imagine.

You let the smoke out, it won't work no more.

can't i just blow some more smoke in?
thanks for the info everyone. i was hopin' it was just the bulb, but i have never seen one do that before. i guess, sometimes, 50 year old bulbs just let you down.
