The project started one year ago. I found that 36 chevy in a farm. I'm the third owner.

The first step was to renovate the rolling chassis.

The second step was to find a 235ci to replace the old 207ci. I found a 1956 bel air engine.

Yes the body and the chassis are in good condition. But there's a lot of work on the (big) fenders.

I changed all the brake system: brake cylinders, all the brake lines, and replaced the master cylinder to a forklift master cylinder.

I wanted to change the engine but I wanted to preserve the transmission.
But, 235ci engine don't fit 1937 bellhousing, and 1956 bellhousing don't fit 1936 transmission. The only chance is to find a 40's truck bellhousing. I found it coming from a bomb truck dating from the II war.

Perfect! All fit.

...to be continued

...I decided to open the transmission, just to run one's eye over gears. Surprise!

:( poor teeth

So, I have to rebuild the transmission: a NOS gear, machined a new shaft, changed the bearings.

The transmission is ready....

Sorry for my english, remember I'm french. I hope you understand what I try to explain.

...and then I rebuild the engine:

...and installed it in the car:

I discovered that the whole engine/bellhousing/transmission is shorter than the original. Nearly 1-3/4".

The solution was to make new supports for the front of the engine :

Perfect!

Very interesting project. I am impressed with the amount of cross referencing it takes to adapt the engine and trans!

I reflect on transform my car like that:

A 5 W coupe with 5 seats ( in fact 2 seats and 3 children seats )

What do you think about that? Let me know before I cut it [S

You do some awesome work, that grill and the tail lights are great!

As for the transformation: that’s the body style I would want, so if you feel you can do it and do it right, then I’d say go for it. [P
