Granted instead of cruising in all cool and laid back it will be more like 'hanging on for dear life' i.e. no glass, no bed, no brakes on half the wheels, no lights, doors tied shut etc. etc. I think it'll still be cool though[ddd:D

sound like a normal cruise in the stuff l used to build[dr

Later:cool:

Sounds like a lot of the stuff I have piddled with too :D

}}}-----:eek:----->

yep, l'm working on the sedan now, but hey, don't you have a 28 year headstart with the willy's?

Later:cool:

ToooooooShaaaaaaay! :eek::eek:
Not much progress the last couple evenings either, ruined one of the nuts that hold the front brake lines (rubber lines) to the frame and can't find one anywhere in this little town......and we even have a Fastenal  Then today I'm having problems with my POS daily work van  Hope to get something done on the Willys this weekend :)

Deadlines boost creativity, but be careful, they also spawn cable TV shows.

Hope you make it to the show.

...and heck, most of my drivers I have to verbally persuade to keep going - it's an adventure every time I drive!

Later,

By the time I quit on the van last night I had ruled out any "rolling" ailments and had narrowed it down to an "RPM" noise that only occurred under load [S So I tore into it this morning..........

converterbolt.jpg

.....could this by chance cause a noise?

..... most of my drivers I have to verbally persuade to keep going - it's an adventure every time I drive!

So after some of that verbal persuading that Sam mentioned, I'm back on the road. There wasn't room for my fancy clicking torque wrench so I had to use my old style Estwing/Napa model :D

oldstyletorquewrench.jpg

I'm now a few hours late for the side job I was headed to today to make a few "Rat Dollars" but I'm off!

Maybe a little Willys time tomorrow?

Well, I'm still thrashing away on the Willys trying to get it together enough to haul to the show on Labor Day weekend. The plan is still to trailer it to within a couple miles of the show and drive it in.......still hope to get it roadworthy and legal for a little cruising before winter.
Tonight I went out to work on a temporary seat but instead got to thinking about mounting my fuel cell so, I got ambitious and built a "3-Hour Flatbed" :D Used my old temporary flatbed as a base and screwed some new floor boards to it....

347flatbedLarge.jpg

...trimmed them up

348trimmingbedboardsLarge.jpg

Added some low side boards so that when I'm out cruising and parts fall off the truck I can toss them in the back and not worry about loosing them :D

349bedbuiltLarge.jpg

Mounted the fuel cell with some plumbers strap and drilled a hole for the fuel line...

352fuelcellinbedLarge.jpg

I'd love to be able to do the metal bed at this time but it's not in the cards right now so this little flat bed will have to do for now....

351fuelcellandsideboardsLarge.jpg

350bedfinishedLarge.jpg

It really doesn't look all that bad......maybe a little funny though since it's wider than it is long  ......and the tires still hang out a bit! That's okay though, I always liked a little cheek showing anyway [ddev

Hang on and I'll catch you up with a few other things I've been working on...

I finally got the front brakes on and working so it's a little more drivable now :D
Found out I don't know much about Chevy Luv front brakes.....

332newpadsLarge.jpg

333newcalipersLarge.jpg

....never seen so many springs, clips, wedges, bushings etc. on a set of discs! Guess they hadn't figured out yet that you could hold them on with two bolts. Finally got the new stuff on though and last weekend my daughter got to drive it for the first time....

340heathersfirstdriveLarge.jpg

....my brother in-law rode along and held the light :D

341heatherandlarryLarge.jpg

Then my sister's turn...

343heatherandmadonnaLarge.jpg

Had a pretty fun evening [cl

Hang on, more to come.....

You may have noticed that I now have four solid wheels. I finished grinding the rivets out of a pair of old 15 X 5 six lugs and reversed them to get them out a little closer to the edge of the fenders. I set up my precision calibrating tool and trued them up.....

336reversingmyfrontwheelsLarge.jpg

Welded up the rivet holes from both sides...

337weldingthemupLarge.jpg

338weldedwheelsLarge.jpg

......and mounted up some 185-65 fifteens.

Also mounted my gauges and hooked up the oil and temp.....

346gaugesbackinLarge.jpg

...fired it up and it carries 40 pounds of oil pressure.

And the other night I took two old Chevy Van breathers and made this dual snorkel breather. Couldn't find a short enough top for it so I made one out of plywood and topped it off with a Beach Boys LP :D

beachboysbreather.jpg

So, it's slowly getting closer.....I'm still waiting for my son in-law to come and drive it before I take my turn but it's getting hard to resist taking off out the road......so I've had to do a couple burnouts to tide me over [ddd

To be continued,

Ray

Not a lot of time for the Willys this weekend, our niece is getting married so that's where I'll be today. However my son in-law made it in yesterday and took his mother in-law for a spin....

scuff it

take some dishsoapy water and a OO steel wool and fade the door art to match the patina on the rest of the truck. the name looks to new and shiny for the rest of the truck.
