You sort of have to admire anyone who can con Discovery into making a show about them but I had to laugh at the new Fast and Loud by the guys at Gasmonkey Garage. Hadn't watched it before but saw a thread about it here on RRR so when I saw it while channel surfing I thought I'd check it out. They bought a 30's original condition off brand coupe for $8500, got it running and sold it on Mecum for $12,500 and said they made $3,500. Please, it cost money to drag it back to their shop, it took their mechanic time to get it running, cost money to transport it to the auction and Mecum doesn't work for free. They also built a '53 Ford gasser and spent $22,500 on it and it sold for $16,000. Didn't think it was a bad show but I doubt it will last very long but we'll see. Great advertising for their garage though!

I hadnt got a chance to catch an episode on tv so last night i watched all three online. It makes me giggle a little bit. The main guy hasnt had his hands greasy for years it seems! Fancy pants and cool glasses and all :)
At least he brings his head guy along to most of the prospective purchases to get his input.
I agree, the numbers seem skewed to me on this show as well as the storage wars shows, but its still fun to watch what people do.

I was wondering what Mecum charges for a no reserve auction as well so i looked it up and found out that no reserve auctions get 5% up to $7500 which means they didn't make as much as they say :)

I think Mecum charges the buyer a fee too. Don't get me wrong, I think anytime you can get that kind of exposure it has to be a good thing as long as you don't come off looking like a complete A-H. Gasmonkey's had some pretty kool cars for sale on eBay but I hadn't seen anything out of them lately and was wondering if they were still around.

That show is pretty lame IMO. Of course, I am not a fan of GMG anyway, but I tried to overlook that and thought maybe, just maybe we might get to see some cool cars at least. How they stay in business is beyond me.

TV has always been called a vast wasteland, and with all these new shows popping out every week it is even worse. Any day now we will see some show about a Funeral Home, with a goofy cast of characters who are like the ones on some of the other reality shows. Mark my words, when you see that show on TV remember you heard it here first. :D

Why hasn't Rat Rod tv gone to cable yet?
It would be a lot better to watch then this crap which seems so scripted.
I guess if there isn't any drama no one will watch but they do have me on a hook with any show that has hot rods, motorcycles or just old stuff on it dam I use to even watch the Golden girls:rolleyes:

like it

l kinda like the show, it beats the ego maniac rod builders spoutin' off all the time.

l would like to see chip foose do a another show, he is a neat guy.

these monkey guys are almost like real people.

Later

rainman and tripper, y'all have never meet my wife, and she can't tell me why she watches it. [S

What do you mean......"OFF BRAND COUPE"?????

That Mr. Toad was a PONTIAC!!! Off brand coupe....!!?? But you're right....go broke spending 22 5 and getting 16 for it....made money on the "off brand coupe"....Of course....it was a PONTIAC!!! :D LOL

Not alot out there in TV land to watch and these shows are borderline brain activity worthy. My vote is for some non drama rat rod boys have a build show that they have no budget( no I mean....there is none, nonexsistant) just backyard P.h.d's and some junk cars gettin built showing every step of the way. I'd watch that!

We have to remember who edits these shows, people who don't know cars or rods they just want a show with stupid drama or constant disagreements. If they would realize that most people that are watching already know what it takes to build a rod. We don't really know what goes on before editing.

i watched one episode and they are just to in your face and looking for attention for me. yea your on tv we get that just build cars and leave all the bull crap behind.

also i dont know how they have a show or money. one of my friends has a car they built a few years ago. he paid big money for it online and talked to the builders. needless to say he was screwed by the quality work or lack there of. it was a 53 custom and i think since he has had it, it has been nothing but problems by the air ride, and engine swap performed by them. i wont even get into the top where they chopped it

Come on, you have to be suspicious when folks throw a car together in a very short period of time to resell for profit (not that there's anything wrong with that)! There have been several shows in the last couple of years like that and the word gets around pretty fast about shoddy work. The show about the guys in the desert with the big junk yard that threw cars together in a couple of weeks to auction off sure didn't last long. Don't think it helped their rep either!

I just like it cause it has old cars. Not much acting and a lot of goofiness but at least its cars. RR
