We're getting hit right now with a "dusting"...I have 5" already and still snowing!!
Will do!!
The way I fly!
Thanks...hardest part is deciding to go in a RAT direction or Drag Direction!! I guess I'll do both!!! The DRAG-RAT!
Well..not to much done lately due to snowstorm after snowstorm!!! We got 25" week or so ago...then another 5" of snow and ice few days ago...something else brewing for Weds!...argh!!!
Did find a couple hours the other night to start hanging the rear:
Ford 9" with Big Oldsmobile ends...
Thanks...This project will have more street time then strip time even though I'm building it as a STREET/STRIP truck. I really enjoy the drag race look on the street! It won't be no slacker either...Pretty nasty SBC with a Poweglide and transbrake ...5.13 gears out back to help turn those 31"...
Got a few more hours in on the project:
Truck is up on work stands..makes it a bit eaiserier to work on....Started bending up the roll cage....
Here you can see how the front bars exit the firewall... these are not fully fitted yet...the cab still needs to come off to weld the top of the roll...
Not really my cup of tea...but each is own!!!!
I would have chopped the back then sectioned out a piece of the roof. Then I would of leaned the "A" pillars back right from the cowl...Your gonna have a tuff time getting a GLASS windshield to fit (curved).
Yep..I knew that on the 1 5/8" tubing...but I have about 100' of 1 3/4" x .134 tubing...sooooo instead of spending more $$$ on the smaller tubing..1 3/4" will be used.
Found a few hours this past weekend to start on the frame....
2x3x .125 tubing was used...may sound a liitle "light"... but will be installing a 10 or 12 point roll cage (1.750" x .134") to stiffen things up a bit!
Here we go...
Two rails clamped to a nice flat even surface
Installing...
Few changes taking place.......
got a smoken deal on a Small block Chevy all roller engine..one of those deals that you just have to grab...so I did!!! The Caddy motor will either be put under the shelf or sold...most likely sell it due to my lack of space in the garage.
I can't wait for the holiday season to end...too much stuff going on interupting my build time!!!!
I need to do something with the windshield opening....it is too tall as compared to the door side window height...I'm thinking visor maybe???
I played around with the different bed lengths.....had it shorter but didn't look right due to the size if the rear fenders. I can picture a pro-mod style wing..but only when I have the proper PRO-MOD engine in it!!! Ohhhh someday [dr
That was the same thought I had on the PRO-MOD look!!
The front of the fenders will be extended down to the bottom edge of the bed, then will build a short running board from the front of the fender to the backside of the cab..kinda a STEP SIDE truck look.
1.75 x .134 wall cage bars will be...
Man.. this holiday season is SLOWWWING my build time down BIG TIME!!!!
Can't seem to find much time to work on this project...but got a little time in :4:
Been sitting in the thinking chair in the garage...looking at the truck and wanting it much lower to the ground...but drivable around...
Few updates since I last posted....
Cut off a few inches off the bottom edge of the cab (rotted to death!)
Engine update.....
Picked up a low milage 1971 Cadillac 500 (8.2l) engine and TH400 Tranny for $200...
Will go thru the engine and put an aluminum intake, cam change...Lakester style...
