    HF Powder coat gun

I've used powder coat guns from a couple of other different companies. The HF gun surprisingly works just as good or better than the other 'consumer' brands that cost 2-3 times as much. It works great on small items that will fit in a regular kitchen type oven. Anything much larger than that...

    Old English Race Cars

Cool pics - amazing that they raced these with no safety equipment at all.

    Much improved shop lighting

The lumens were 4800 and the color was 5000K. I should have taken a before and after picture, but forgot. Its like daylight now.

    Much improved shop lighting

My shop has 11 8 ft. fluorescent fixtures that were getting dim over the years. The old style T12 bulbs are getting harder to find and are now priced at $8-$12 each. I ended up replacing the bulbs with 8 ft. T8 LED bulbs.I expected an improvement - but Wow! These bulbs are much brighter and the...

A 1920s New Addition To The Shop

That 1-1/2 HP motor back then is about as big as a 10 HP now. And probably has more metal in it that the 10HP does. What a great find!

    Advice on a 5.3

I've got a 5.3 engine & 4L60 that only has 60K miles on it, but has been sitting in the shop for 4 years. It has been kept clean and sealed up. Since you can't pre oil these engines (I think), what should I do before firing up this project?

    Recent projects

I never realized how much I would use a lathe until I got one. Just one of the cheap 12 x 36 knockoffs, but it works fine for home use. Now I've added a bench top mill to go with it.

    Nuts/Bolts and Screws

I use coffee cans. Handy and free (if use use the coffee)

    Project El-Cheepo Shop Heat

Back in the 50's, I remember my dad had an old cast iron pot belly stove in his shop. He put a 5 gal bucket of old engine oil up on a high shelf and ran a small copper line down to the top of the stove with a little valve on it. When he got a fire started in it he would crack the valve and let...

    1929 Essex/Truck

Excellent work! I got to work on a 29 Essex once. A guy came in wanting to install a toggle light switch since the column mounted switch wouldn't work. He finally decided to let me replace all the wiring, so I ended up doing the whole car with original looking cloth covered wire. The funny part...

    Sema 2015

I was able to make the SEMA show this year after skipping 5 years. It seemed much more crowded this year than I remembered. There were a lot of 'rats' there. A few were real rats, but most were 'show quality'. I'd never seen any in my previous visits. It was good to see they are being accepted...

    Timed relay?

If you google things related to 555 timer circiuts, you will find a lot of circuits and timer kits that can be made to be adjustable from milliseconds to hours. You will have to be a little electronically oriented and be willing to do some soldering and fabrication, but you could make an...

    32 desoto Cummins

I saw a Cummins in a 'Boat Tail Rivera'. Really cool, but it the turning radius was about 2 blocks!

    Cheap grinding disc warning

I've never had a HF wheel explode that didn't get dropped first or twisted when grinding. BUT, they do wear out very quickly compared to a quality wheel. I can usually cut 3-4 times more metal with a good wheel. Cheap does not usually equate to economy.
