Good eye. The cross member does look like flat plate in the pictures. It's actually angle iron with 3/8" wall.

So I angled my steering arms inward to point at the pinion which created some interference between it and the axle when the wheels are turned all the way. I ground some of it away to get about a 30 degree angle on each side. I'm using a harmonic balancer degree wheel to measure the angles so...

I agree, master cylinder. In my experience a bad booster resulted in a hard but ineffective pedal kinda like when the engine isn't running.

You've already got some good advice but I wanted to add my $.02. In my experience you can either keep advancing it until it pings then back off a bit or set the total advance to 34 - 36° at 2500 - 3000 rpm. Both have worked for me but checking total advance also let's you confirm that your...
