A friend of mine bought this truck with hopes of building a decent street cruiser. Nothing to fancy but not a Ratrod either.

She got to where she needed a little help getting the drivetrain in and the steering in and that's where I came in.

When I started on the truck the Chrysler K member was already installed but needed some attention to make it safe.

This is how the frame was cut for the steering box when I got the truck. They cut the frame down to just a 3" by 2" piece of angle without realizing it.

I squared up the cuts on the frame the best that I could, put a piece of 1"wide 1/4" thick strap across the bottom of the frame on the inside to tie it into the k member, then plated it with 1/4" plate.

It's not how I would of liked to do it but I had to work with what I had. In the pic I still have to weld it up and make a few more pieces.


The next step was fixing the steering and brake pedal assembly.

Some of you might remember the butchered F1 frame that I posted pictures of awhile ago. This cab is off of that frame and it shows lol.
They butchered the cab just as bad when they tried to put the modern brakes and steering column in it. I will be putting a stock style replacement steering column and the booster/master cyl. Back under the floor.
 
Last night I started trying to fix the chew hole that they had the master cyl bolted thru.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a body man!

It needs some more work with a flapper disc and then a thin layer of filler?
I am open to advice on this one!

Put u a steel plate on weld and grind down the edges.
Than drill out for the steering
That way be strong to bolt up steering
Would look nice
And no bondo needed
 
I finally had some time to work on this today. Lets just say I hate fords... A lot.

Here is where I'm at with it. The k member that another person installed is pushed so far up into the frame that the ford engine that the owner wants to use won't fit between the firewall and the steering gear box. It looks like I'm going to have to install a remote oil filter set up, recess the firewall a bit, and I'm not sure how I'm going to do the motor mounts yet.

The yellow mark on the frame is where the radiator will set in its stock location. The motor still needs to go back about 6" to clear it if I can't move it forward some. I'm going to pick the doghouse up tomorrow so I can set it on and take a look.
 
idea

l used a steel wheelbarrow to recess the firewall in the 48 dodge truck and it worked very well.

Its hard to tell in the pics but, it looks like there might be enough room for a standard oil filter on there, not the ph8 like it calls for but one from a Ford 3.8 is the same diameter just shorter.
 
Get a 90 * adapter from van. Turns the filter toward the front.

That's probably what I will do. There's not enough room for even a short filter.




Does anybody know of a different style exhaust manifold that don't hang so low?
 
I just noticed that drivers side manifold......that is I believe a Maverick manifold, only used in 302 equipped Mavericks from 71-77.
