so my other project is this 63 impala, I traded an old 70s Yamaha xs650 chopper for it. was really wanting an old car and hadn't had anything of my own that fit the bill. guy offered it up as a trade, I wasn't super interested at first, then he said it had a factory 327 in it. I was all in at that point. as a chevy guy, having a 327 was pretty sweet to me!

so its a 63 w/ a 250hp 4bbl 327 and a power glide. also a factory a/c car. guy said he couldn't get it to run right. did points, cap, and rotor, put on an electric fuel pump for whatever reason. I wasn't happy with the electric pump, in my opinion it doesn't belong on that car... so I bought a new mech fuel pump and push rod. got that on, set the timing, got it to start pretty consistently, but there still wasn't something right. went and got a rebuild kit, cleaned the carb completely, all new gaskets, and accelerator pump, put it back together, better but still off, so during goodguys in august here in des moines, I bought a brand new edelbrock carb cause I was convinced it was the carb. following the weekend I swapped carbs. wouldn't ya know it, popped right off and ran like a champ!! added a new filter and it ran smooth. so I decided I wanted to put bigger exhaust on it at some point. bought some new 2.5" ram horn manifolds, the most surprising thing about it is all 12 bolts came out WITHOUT breaking a single one in the heads! I couldn't believe it. got the old exhaust hooked up to the manifolds for now.

swapped the front brakes out for disc since the brakes didn't work for crap, put a new M/C and proportioning valve on and ran new lines. id like to swap the rear drums out for disc at some point as well. and currently in the process of doing upper a arm bushings, and all four ball joints, and tie rods.

id love to tear the whole thing down, replace all the rusty panels and make everything nice, but it runs good and even with the front end as bad as it was, it drove really well. so i'll probably just fix what needs fixed for now and drive it the way it is for a while. its not pretty but its fun! and that's all that matters right?

well I hope ya enjoy this one as well. probably wont be as exciting as the T build but with me I usually keep people guessing!

As my best friend always tell me when I start fussing about little things on my project, "Skip, it's a rat rod!" It looks like you are on the right track. Enjoy it.

thank ya sir! these days with these I just like to tinker with them, I have my 85 iroc to make "pretty" and spend the time on to make look really nice as its one of my absolute dream cars. but with the 63 and the T they are just gonna be drivers to enjoy!

I was shocked even with a worn out suspension it was super smooth. I have been on the fence with putting a manual air ride setup on it. Just not sure if I wanna deal with it...

haha oh I know, I think the ride of air bags would be really nice, plus I could lay it low whenever, but I can already see the hassle of the the manual setup haha.

Small update, getting the front back together had been a pain in the rear.... Between fighting stuff and people pulling me off of it. Anyway, drivers side suspension is back mostly together, couldn't get the ball joints to break out of the spindles no matter how I tried... Did everything I know how to do, from a BFH to heat, so I had to break down a buy new spindles.... Will probably be one of the only shiny new things you'll see on this car, but i know with Iowa weather they won't be for long! Lol. I'm continuing to plug away today, hopefully with no interruptions... I'll update more later as things progress.

where are you finding them that cheap? everywhere I looked they were pushing 300 almost 400 with fittings. plus I have a bunch of the stuff for manual stuff already. I think bags on that thing are more of a pipe dream... I got the front end finished up today and took it out for a test drive, seemed to do ok tired to hit some speed bumps and turns to try and set the springs. all seems ok so far. guess we'll see...
