im trying to find a new starter for a 1935 chevy inline 6 the one i have burnt up or just went bad from being old and i need to replace alot of parts on the engine anyway just to make it safe. the starter in it now has a foot pedal on it to start the car. would like to keep it that way but it not no big deal

thanks for the help.

I think you are going to have trouble finding a complete starter. I did some quick internet searching and came up empty. However, Obsolete Chevy parts in Nashville does carry a lot of parts for the starter. Any starter shop should be able to fix yours with those parts, unless something major is gone.

so is there a newer starter i could make work??? i searched also and couldnt find anything either and i looked on ebay and got nothing.

does anyone no where i could find a rebuild kit???

here is what it does when you try to start it.
the battery cables get very hot after turning it over 3 times then the started gets hot and did smoke but it still trys to turn the motor over i might see if i can clean it but i think it needs a rebuild or replaced.

If only they all started like that one. :D This would be my luck.......

Yeah, right Don. You need a perfectly tuned beauty to start that nice.

What's this brain-stem doing? Why doesn't the crank free itself after the engine starts? Dumb-a$$.

Sorry 93blazer, I'm easily distracted. As far as I know, you can't use a newer starter. The tooth count is different, so you would have to change the flywheel to match.

I'd take that starter apart, clean it up and replace whatever it needs if it's not shot.

Here's a link I found for a new one.

so i took it apart and it looks like the brushes are wore down but everything else look and seem good i also am going to replace the coil that might be the problem.

thanks don your alot of help maybe i can help you out with something in return haha. im saving that website. you no i haven been working/building cars for awhile like mini trucks and stuff and i thought this hot/rat rod thing would be similar but man was i wrong and thanks to you and others on this site im learning now [;)

i replaced the coil and hooked the starter back up and it does nothing but its getting power to it so i think its time for a rebuild kit or to get it rebuilt.
