So my 6al2 msd died, and I'm short on funds, so I am back to my hei that I used on dyno day. My engine is a 9.6:1 454 with Brodix rectangular port heads an rpm air gap intake and a 850 mech secondary Holley.

When I put the distributor on, it wouldn't hold vacuum at idle and pretty much ran like crap at anything under 3/4 throttle. I bought a vc1862 vacuum can, then made a limiter for the vacuum can that limits it to roughly 8 degrees of advance. Then I modified the mechanical advance to only have 14 degrees advance (each have about 20 degrees of range in stock form)

I set the initial timing at 24 degrees and now with the vacuum hooked up it has 32 at idle, and 38 when wound up.

For jetting, 80's in the front with a 6.5 PV and 88's in the back with no PV. Idle screws are at 1.5

It runs great now. No detonation, no hesitation, starts easy, and a crazy lopey stable idle at 1000 rpm.

Just wanted to put this here for reference.
