So I've come into possession of a recently pulled and running 59A that I am going to see if I can get spinning. Is there anything specific I should do before I try and crank it over? Going to hook up an oil pressure and temp gauge before I try and start it, and need to make a down and dirty run stand as the frame isn't ready for it.

It turns nicely, I haven't checked compression cause everything I have read says it needs to be warm for a true reading. This is really the first flathead I have played with, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

pp, the advice you've been given is flawed a bit in this case. The cold compression readings may not be perfect to within one PSI, but who cares. If you find seven cylinders have around 80 lbs and one has three pounds, then you know you have a problem with a valve or piston.
I hope you have as good luck as I had starting up my flathead.
