I don't know what a '41 Mercury two ton looks like, but from '42 to '47 they looked like this truck. I like the Ford 'vertical' grille better so that's what I have.

Doc, that flamed 40 looks good but to me this more traditional style of flamed 40 screams hot rod.

When I think of flamed hot rod, a black traditionally flamed 40 has long been the image in my mind.

Looking at so many flamed cars, it seems a really weird feature to me... [S Who invented this anyway...

If your question is an honest one, I believe it started with dry lakes racing when somebody had an engine fire, continued the speed run and was captured on film...

Don Prudhomme in the HOT Wheels 'cuda, 1971 Seattle. In the second pic, the pattern-painted lines indicate the speed trap, which is the last 60 feet before the finish line... so, top speed on two wheels, on fire, breaks the finish line beam with the rear tires for the win! [ddd [cl

I'll take your word for it. I've never been to Seattle, but I have been to Spokane once, for the AHRA World Finals... eight million cubic yards of concrete make the spectator stands down both sides, not one square foot on the track. :p

In all seriousness, the Seattle drag strip (Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wa.) is the coolest drag strip I've been to. Spectators park amongst the trees in the forest, following the road through the forest you find the pits and the drag strip.

In 2015 when we went to the Goodguys show in Puyallup, we went to the Friday Night Vintage Drags (as part of the goodguys show) at Pacific Raceways. It's a beautiful setting with history dating back to 1960, and is really worth a visit. When we were there for the Vintage Drags, it really gave you that feel of the "Glory Days".

The road course was even a mainstay in the Trans Am schedule in the 60's and 70's.
