In 1971 I was in the midst of my "Volkswagon Period". One day my wife's cousin husband called and asked if I wanted a VW. They were living in married student's housing at the University of Minnesota. Their neighbors were moving out and had a VW that didn't run and had no way to take it with them. I stepped up and bought it for nothing. At least they weren't going to get fined for leaving it in the parking lot.

It was an early small window, 1955? I no longer remember. It had semaphore turn signals in the B pillars.
I bought a Baja Bug fiberglass kit and proceeded to desecrate the little fella. Put a 40hp engine and had my friend Mike (RIP good buddy) paint it a Mopar metallic brown color in my garage.

In the summer my two little girls and I would sneak over to a park with a ski area and bomb down the slopes. Great fun!

Here's a few pics I recently discovered.
