yeah, I asked if they wanted drawings with dimensions and even example parts. NOPE. ALL WE NEED IS THE DXF. ok.

and the parts (my part and their part) are different parts, mine is a front cab mount and theirs is a core support mount, I didnt have a matching part handy but I was showing the 2" hole was now a 5.1" hole. the actual core mount their part is based on is smaller than my cab mount laying on it.

I really wanted the prototype to make sure I could bend it, kerf width on my parts is 55 thousandths, on their laser its 7 thousandths. so I wanted to try bending in a vise, I plan to sell and ship flat to save postage.

well next protos were perfect. [cl[cl[cl

had to change the inside cuts because the laser kerf was too small to bend correctly. but approved!

still working on bobby. bed on, fenders on, running boards, rain weekend and next week so i will get it shoved in and do the interior.

the "delay" as per usual (as per yoosh is what my daughters say) is multi pronged. my wifes car started making a racket, sounded like the hydraulic tensioner on the timing belt, so rather than just replace the tensioner i decided a belt/water pump/tensioner/idler, and while we were in tehre a valve adjustment. called the shop and they said 2k, ouch but its a 100k thing, then he said MAYBE 3 weeks. so I ordered all the parts and just did it. add a power steering pump, motor mount, and serp belt tensioner and it took me just over 2 days. with all the extras it would have been 2500 for sure. when I finished the variable cylinder management started acting up, if it had been the shop they would have replaced the $400 valve, but I googled and learned how to clean the screen, crisis averted. no pics, who wants to see timing belt and valve pictures on a 12 year old hounda?

then I decided to look for a 48-50 ford f1 again. there was a guy with an F6 a month ago who I messaged and the next day he switched the ad to pending, almost 3.5 weeks later it was still pending.

attachment.php

i messaged him again and he said oh the guy is still trying to work out a pick up plan. I said, I am 1 1/2 hours away, in 2 hours you will be counting your money. that got him off high-center and 2 hours later I was picking up. he made me a deal when I got there because I said i wanted the front and rear grain bed panels, he misunderstood. so we walked the property and he had an old ford bed leaning against the shed, i gave that money right back for it.

attachment.php

my neighbor rode along and was dazzled by my bargaining and loading skills.

attachment.php

its a 36 ford with a tailgate, i dont have a particular need for it so if anyone needs one i think it will fit 34-38 generally and 35-36 exactly.

and yes I know the f6 fenders are too big. dont worry. I have a PLAN.

Nice score.
Love those F series trucks.
The F6 cab is what I started my custom truck build with.

p.s. The fenders are only too big if you use small tires.LOL

see? I told you I had a plan. :)

a little day trip to oklahoma and this one followed me home. I originally made a deal for just the bed and the front clip, but then I remembered I may want to build another someday.

he had a clear title in his name, but its titled as a 51. the beds a 51 for sure, but the serial comes back as a 49... I think. its fuzzy when they switched to 1950, somewhere around 325XXX on the serials, this one is a 322XXX, so I will do some research. if the serial is a 49 I will title as such on a bill of sale.

Nice scores. If the cab has a small rear window it should be 48-50. Large rear window is 51-52. I think the bed on the first load is a 37. It has 3 hinges, I think 35-36 only had 2. I may be confused though.

You're doing fine, Joe.
Kenny, it must be that the two/three hinge split, is after '34. Here's my replica '36 Ford tailgate. It's the same as Joe's.

thanks guys.

kenny its definitely a 49 or a 50, i am thinking 50 because of the flat bed sides. there is no way its a 51 because it has a small window like you say, plus t was original with a 48-50 front end. I have a spare 51 front end (well my friend and I do) and maybe I can make it work.

attachment.php

and the tailgate is def a 36, not that I am some expert (like mercury is!) but i researched the tar out of it. I am going to list it local and see if I can offset my purchases with it

Yet another score.[cl :D
Ford did some strange things as far as titles and carrying over parts from one year to the next.
If there is a tag inside the glove box door (and it hasn't been changed.[ddd) that will give you the year of the cab at least.
There is a 36 Box and rear fenders listed near me for $500 and it's rough as a cob.

Just caught up. Chevy is looking good, then the sidetrip to Fordland looks like fun. I'm curious to see what the plan for the big front wheel wells is with a Mercury donor.

I think the plan right now is:

build a complete 49 F1 using the F6 cab, F1 front fenders, the 48 bed I just got sunday, and the F6 grille.

build another complete f1 using the 51 f1 front clip, f1 cab and 50 bed.

picked up that bed sunday, my friend bought two of the 60-66 that were there. we will be back for more I think.

attachment.php

build a wall hanger with the big fenders and ratty f1 grille.

build my 56 chevy big window shortbed with the grand marquis. maybe with the 4.6, but maybe just the chassis.

I will update after step one.

i feel like I am in a time machine, i think I just replied to a build and I have to go back four pages! busy times.not a lot of internet time for me either.

finally got my first part order.

attachment.php

hmm wait. something is wrong. remember my comically large part? well they went the other way with it. I got keychains of that part this time.

attachment.php

it was a drawing appearance issue apparently. I sent drawings and they didnt appear to look at them. :p no really, they are great guys, honest mistake, easily rectified.

attachment.php

anyone on here wants a set I have great RRR/UDS discounts and volume pricing! free keychains too! ;)

but this thread is about bob. WHAT ABOUT BOB?

I have been planning out the floor and brackets for those pretty red seats. its a lot of work. the guy I got the cab from cut the WHOOOOOLE seat riser out and its complicated to make buckets work on that undulating floor. I have stared at it a few times, drug out some rectangle tube, measured and scratched my head. then I saw this on marketplace.

attachment.php

I didnt know if it would fit, its from a 67-71 chevy, but the price was great for a newly recovered seat. I looked up dims online and it said 58 1/8, so I jumped. turns out the BOTTOM is 58 1/8, the top is 59 1/2, cue sad trombone.

attachment.php

it was a two hour drive, lick my wounds or double down? DOUBLE DOWN.

attachment.php

cut a section out of both sides and ratchet strapped it back together.

attachment.php

attachment.php

weld it back up and slip the cover back on for a trial fit

attachment.php

attachment.php

perfection! (the white in the seams is chalk lines, it really did just get recovered!)

just need to hog ring the cover back on and do something about the adjuster handle sticking out the drivers side.

maybe just cut a hole in the door :p[S:rolleyes:
