I’ve started working on my RSC $4K buildoff car. I’m starting with a GM 305 from an 87 GMC, mated to a 700r4, and a ford 8” with 3.0 gears so it should get great fuel mileage. Total price for the drive train, $775.00. The body is a 1918 dodge brothers touring car that someone had poorly grafted roadster quarters onto. First step was to cut off the quarters so I could replace the lower 3” or so of the body as it was really rotten.

4 hrs later and I have one lower rocker finished. I decided to stretch the body out 12 inches to accommodate my stupidly long legs. This body is just a little too short and seeing as I don’t have doors or the frame built yet, now is the time to do it. What I will do, is once I have the other side reskinned, I will cut the center of the door sill and stretch it there.

Got the other side of the body reskinned this afternoon. Decided that 12” was a bit too much to stretch the doors so I decided to only go 8”. If I decide that it’s still not enough room, I’ll stretch the area behind the doors an additional 4-6”. Tomorrow I plan on filling in the gap and making the firewall. We’ll see just how much I get done.

Got the rockers finished up today, I’m planning on welding a piece of steel to the door jambs and sill to make everything look proper but that will be a little bit later. Built my firewall and welded it to the cowl and test fit how I think the engine and transmission should fit. Should give plenty of leg and foot room. I plan on welding the rear back on tomorrow but we’ll see how everything g goes. I still need to pick up steel for the floor, transmission tunnel, frame, and door frame work.
