Worth anything to any of you?

I picked up a pair of vintage (guessing 70's) Goodyear Blue Streak Stock Car Specials in a 9.0/8.20 - 15 size (If I'm reading it right) They are weather checked from sitting outside for what looks like years. They do have inner tubes in them and one of them I was able to inflate a bit with my...

    Primer over paint?

I love the look of a primered rat (ruddy brown). I've heard, though that primer will "hold" moisture if kept at this stage. Since the vehicle I'm about to "rat" is currently painted, is it possible to lightly scuff the paint (enough to allow the primer to bite, but not down to bare metal), and...

Anything going on in Myrtle Beach August 17-23rd?

Me and the family will be staying in North Myrtle Beach Aug 17th through the 23rd (2014). Since the last three times we've been to MB have happened to coincide with a car show (one of which we got to go to!), I'm hoping to have 4 for 4 and be able to take my kids to one this year too.

Need measurements on 37-59 GMC half ton front axle

I am hoping to use this: http://shop.eztbucket.com/GMC-Front-Axle-Adapter-Kit-5016.htm To mate up a Suzuki Samurai front axle to my frame. I'm hoping to use the batwings that come in this kit and use u-bolts through the holes in the flat mount to have a truly bolt-on front axle. Can someone...

Anyone start out a rat bike from a dirt bike?

I've seen some killer deals recently on some dirt bikes in my price range. Anyone start off with a dirt bike for their builds? What limitations do you encounter? Or, am I better off saving some more coin for a street bike to start with?

    Extreme Makeover : Scooter Edition

My son Zach has 4 older sisters, so he got stuck with a hand-me-down Disney Princess scooter. He loves when I look at Rat Rods and Hot Rods, so I figured I'd do it up in Hot Rod/ Rat Rod fashion. Here's the before picture: Here's some of the after: Nothing like a Woodie for a Hot Rod...

    flux core on sheet metal?

I am looking to do some chopping soon on a m38a1 (military jeep) windshield frame. I'm not sure how thick the steel is. (seems pretty beefy). I only have access to a flux core wire welder and it doesn't have a bottle option. I've used this in the past to weld 3/16" steel, but never thin...

    Filling oversize holes in firewall?

What do the veteran car-builders use to fill oversize holes in the firewall? I was thinking about having to use fender washers and weld them in and fill the center hole, but if there's something easier, let me know it! Some of the holes are oblong, too...

Anyone build their own windshield frame?

I've been looking at the windshield frame that came with my M38a1 tub and I just don't like it. It's rusted out at the driver's side clamp and it just looks boring. I'd like to use the windshield glass that came in it , chop it down about 4-6", and build a vertical frame to hold it in place of...

    Outside the "box" grill idea

I always like to use what I have and build something instead of buying something IF I can make it cool enough. That's a BIG if....... I wanted some thoughts on a hair-brain idea I got in looking at some stuff that came with my M38a1 tub for my build. The M38a1 has a built in toolbox that's...

    Build your own fuel tank?

Has anyone built their own fuel tank? If so, what tech is needed (assuming carburated)? Are there any inspection "gotcha's" to watch out for? Here's what I'm hoping to do with mine: Since I'm starting out with a military m38a1 tub, I'd like to use a jerry can mounted to the back and use a...

    Maintaining a paint patina?

The M38a1 tub I got for my project has a really cool natural military paint. It has cracked and rusted to give it a neat looking patina. Problem is, the cracked paint keeps flaking off a bit. Should I wet sand with a high number grit sandpaper to keep it?

    M38a1 build startup

Well just the other day, I brought home what will be the start of a LONG term project. Hopefully by the time I'm finished, rat rodding will still be cool. I've been struggling with how to build what I have - a bombed out Suzuki Samurai tub, frame and axles into something that resembles a rat...

Am I just wasting my time and money?

So I got this hair-brained idea a while back to take some parts I had lying around that I was going to build an off-road toy out of and turn it into a rat-rod instead. What I started with is a Samurai frame and the front half of the tub (back to the doors), a pair of Samurai axles, a pair of...

Engine selection time... should I go tried and true, or something a little different

I'm building a rat rod out of parts that I already have on hand. I don't currently own an engine, but I have a long inputT90 transmission, a Dana 18 transfer case to mate up to a pair of Suzuki Samurai axles (I know weak import crap, but the price was right - free!). The trans and t-case are...

    Church car show, Lexington NC

My church (First Alliance Church in Lexington NC) is having a car show September 29th from 10 am - 2 pm for anyone interested. Here is a link to the flyer. flyer for the car show I'd love to see some rat rods come out. Mine's still just a bunch of parts and dreams at this point, so I'll be...

    Howdy from the Pig City

Lexington NC here - the self-proclaimed Barbecue Capitol of the world. Hey there. I found this site kinda by accident. I've been on K!llB!llet.com and on the other website that sounds like a pork product. This one seems more friendly especially since my build is far from a traditional Rat...
