    Suicide Front End question

21Willys, Old Iron posted a build thread that just so happens to be my car. The pics are old, so it has changed a lot. I'll get some more pics up, so I can make things a little more clear. I hope to have the rear coil perchs on today. Once I get that done I can swing the car around to get the...

    Suicide Front End question

Hey folks, I am back and back to building the MRAT. The frame is built (2x6 1/4" box tubing) and I am fab'ing up the rear suspension. While I am physically building the rear, I am thinking about the front. I am using coil springs over a big I-beam and need to figure out how to stabilize the...

Suspension and Frame for a 1400# engine

any chance you could give me a width of the axle you have? I can get a guess for the track width. What do you think? think it might look with the added width of the big axle? I need to trust in the calibrated eye of those who have been doing this longer than me.:D

Suspension and Frame for a 1400# engine

Thanks! I am going to look into that. I honestly haven't decided yet. On one hand the wide beam of the newer truck would give it a nice wide stance and look mean as heck with semi-truck tires etc. I could even use the one that actually came on the MRAPS, but keeping it with more hot rod friendly...

    Project MRAP. I-beam identification

If it is for a car..... If it is to a car and it sure looks like it is. Can a front axle beam be boxed and reinforced life a frame car? To me it stands to reason that I could add strenght in this manner and also make it look for industrial. Can anyone give me a yay or nay on this? I'd rather...

Suspension and Frame for a 1400# engine

I am building a 31 Buick 60 series and the motor I am using is a DT466 with a Allison 545 trans out of a school bus. Does anybody have ideas for how to build a cool suspension for this car? I was thinking of using a beam out of a 4700 series truck, but the track is much wider than I was...

    Operation MRAT

Thanks! I am a bit behind the curve. I have been trying to do a diesel rod for a long time. It is one of the reasons I went with the big International motor. I haven't seen this one outside the pulling world. Problem is building a suspension and frame that can hold it. Anybody got ideas on...

    Operation MRAT

Anybody know anybody on this site that I can talk to about building a frame and suspension that can hold a 1400lbs diesel engine? I have some ideas, but want to talk to somebody in the know so I don't hurt myself or those around me. I don't want a Mom in her minivan to be part of my learning curve.
