Using Ladder Bars for radius rods

These are very stout, that's what got me thinking of using them. These are much stronger than the hairpin radius rods I have seen being used on the rears. Also, I have quite a bit of weld surface to the rear axle to prevent it from turning. I just have to take my time not to wrap the rear axle...

Using Ladder Bars for radius rods

I have an old set of ladder bars from lakewood. These are the bolt on types for early GM cars with coils. Bascially these were a suppliment to the existing suspension on those cars. I would like to use them as radius rods with a pan hard and coilover shocks for the rear suspension. Thats it, no...

Your opinions needed on my build

Not too worried about being in the open. I have been riding bikes all my life. As you mention, a fiberglass T will not offer more protection.

This thing will also be low to the ground unlike tradional speedsters. The thing about the seats being in the bed might be a little difficult for me to pull off.

Your opinions needed on my build

I like things simple. Has worked well for me in life. You can't get more simple than a speedster. I was thinking of taking a model a cowl and adding bomber seats to a custom frame and making my own rat rod speedster. No doors, no rear quarters, no fenders no hood. No banger here, I was thinking...

Great story donsrods. I have a few myself. So I have decided to atleast use a suspension. Now it is just a question of which one.

    No rear suspension ratrod

I tried no suspension on a forklift. Boy it was hell at 10 MPH on a flat floor! What was I thinking!! Anyways, I found a great link describing what Chopper Tom was talking about. Basically a Truck Arm suspension like the Winston cup cars: http://projects10.freeservers.com/coiloverrear.html

    No rear suspension ratrod

Thanks chopper tom. I got it now. I like this setup. Looks easy to build. I can use some adjustable coilover shocks I have left over from my last sandrail build.

    No rear suspension ratrod

Thank you everyone for the professionalisim. When I asked this question on the HAMB, all I got were insults. If you seach for my posting there, you will not find it since they deleted it. One guy from Australia even had the nerve to insult the state of Arizona where I am from. Anyways, I took a...

Started on the 40 Dodge PU

Nice build! I once brought up the question of using a VW front end on that more tradional forum. Here is what happened: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=226215&highlight=jayzx6 I got lucky and scored a 1928 axle complete from drum to drum with the spring and the tie rods for...

    No rear suspension ratrod

Thanks for the reply Chopper Tom. I think I get what you are saying. Basically a contol arm for the back. What if I substitute the coil with a shock in the middle with a coilover shock.

    No rear suspension ratrod

Thanks for the great feedback, and not one insult! You guys rock. I think based on what I heard, I will put together a simple suspension. ChopperTom, do you have a picture or a drawing of the suspension you mentioned?

    No rear suspension ratrod

I was thinking no suspension for the same reason I did not put one on my chopper. Basically to keep things nice and simple. I would not have to deal with Zing the frame or pan hard bars, leaf springs, coilsover, etc. Also no axle warp. Just to give you more info, I am building a model A truck...
