Thanks guys.

Did your rust continue to darken over time or did you re apply it to get it darker? I like the darken red smooth rust vs the orange color.
Sandblasted my metal to get the thick tar like paint of and start freash. Been thinking about painting it and then going back with a sander to bring it back to metal in spots. My question is how do you get the dark red smooth rust? Not the orange stuff?
water, salt, vinegar works I've read...
I'll need the rear for the 600+ ft/lbs . At least a 275. Luckly the bed I'm making from scratch and will probably be the last thing I do make but should be pretty simple.
The front will not have truck or the same size tires as the rear.
I keep going back and forth on tire size to get the right portions.
Full cab Ford F1
Slam to the ground on air bags
With a cummins motor
Ford 9"
Bed I will build.
30" tall tire is min and easy to get.
However this is not the look I'm going for. Notice how the bed is so tall and the rear...
I'm wanting to run a more traditional steering setup and ditch the C arm that connects to the drag link. I've seen guys use the F1 spindles on a model A or 30's Axle and what they do is cut the boss off that the steering arm and tie rod. They then smooth them out.
Something like this.
Or...
Heck yea! Even when the the piston rings "go" and blow by like a train they keep on ticking. I've found a few out of buses I'm thinking of picking up. There's a performance shop in IL that gets these and uses them as cores and working on getting one of theirs.
You can buy a rebuild kit for 1,500 bucks. Rebuilds of a 5.9 12 valve is around 8k if you want a drop in. These motors are tough, the 24v common rail, not so much.
Whoa, depending on the damage I would try to a in chassis rebuild but I don't know the damage to it. Good luck in getting your...
The 3" inch clearance is for when the frame is laying on the ground. When air bags are inflated will have additional 6" clearance (so 9" total).
Having it in the cab it self, noise at highway speeds do concern me, as I do intend of on driving it. Friend of mine has a 6bt in his rig and...
Yes sir, by dropping the engine a little I can push the motor back toward the firewall. Still want 3" min clearance between the ground and the oil pan in case if I drop frame something is under oil pan. Thinking of Murphy, you know he can be a real ******* sometimes..lol.
Worst case is the...
I'm pretty much had made up my mind on what motor, transmission I wanted to use for my build. However after going to a few shows and trying to visualize the setup I'm starting to get cold feet so to say.
If you have a cummins 6bt swap in a fenderless setup please post pictures. I'm worried...
Nice work, I'm looking at building one with a 6bt. Does the engine still have some lean? Just mocking up the motor mounts to the chassis now?
How did you come about making your frame (looking to do my first)?
I would use the cab and the bed. Grill will be made using something another, not sure. The motor I intend to use is big..about 2-3x as heavy as a sbc. These trucks are big and don't see many done (reason why I started this thread). When it comes to bodies that are older I haven't been able...
