Cab is solid except around the front windshield. Doors are rusty on the bottoms and front end is crap..but its a start.

Because car production stopped basically from 42-46, there are few that are really 1945's, but I guess truck production may be different because they were still making them for the war effort.

Looks like a good start, at least as good as some we saw for sale this past weekend at Turkey Run.

Yes i think its rare..I have the clear title that says 1945 farm truck..i am now the third owner of this carolina truck..

Not really sure..i have built a few cars but never a rat rod. love the old style look and slamed to the pavement. I am posted on here for ideas and help with what i will need to get this project rolling..Any input would be helpful..love the look of the early ford suspension. I think that is the way i'm headed. I have been following the articles in ratrod magazine showing building the chasis from scratch in the last three issues. Its been pretty helpful,..More photos coming soon.

off the trailer and in the garage

I am new to this and need some suggestions on where to start fist..

The first thing you need to do is lay out a design of what you want the finished rat to look like (for the most part anyway).

What Motor and tranny do you want to use?
Rear end? Front axle?
Suspension? Bags, Springs, etc.
What other equipment do you have that you want to use?

With what you have in front of you there you can decide what you want to do with your cab. Do you want to chop it? Channel it? Rust repair? Lengthen the cowl area for more leg room? Cut the top off and turn it into like a bucket?

Where you start is really up to you but there are a few suggestions.

You already started! Sit the cab down to ride height, roll some tires in the front and back, then stand back and see what you like. Write down those measurments and figure out the stuff layed out above. Then go to work.

Thanks guys for the info. Thats whats cool about this site. Everybody is ready to help..I have a friend of a friend that called me yesterday is has built four different rat rods and is more than willing to help.I do mnow i want to make a traditional rat rod with the body slammed and the model a type front end to keep that old look going.I have built cars before but never from scratch like this one..Going to be a a lot of work but a lot of fun..any suggestions on rear ends or the best chassis in your guys opinion? Thanks for all the input..it is really helpful..mike

as I'm not a "purist" per say, I think the rarity of the yr of this truck the body shouldn't be cut up. z frame in front and back of cab to get it low, and just do the floor as most floors need new metal anyway. You did terrific on the price. Just my opinion on the cab, the rest--Rat it out as you feel fit! Good luck and more intelligent builders will add help as you ask for it. Should be nice when you get done....carry on! Til later by the fire--John T.(my camping phrase) lol!

Thanks John..i feel that its pretty rare also being a 45..not decided on cutting into it just yet.I am thankful for your input. I do plan on Z'd frame and a traditional hot rod look with a A model front axel. I may run the model a spokes also..Just looking to build a cool cruiser not a race truck..Thanks.

Yes to that !!!

Rarities like true 1945s deserve to be heralded as real survivors so they certainly should be kept as close to factory as you can in my opinion[dr. I'll definitely have to keep an eye on this build because I think you are on to something sweeeeet.[;)[dr

Another score today.

Got this model A front end today only 5 miles from my house for only $50 dollars..turns good and has hubs but no spring..Its been a good week so far..Truck body with title on monday and found this front end today..looks like i'm on my way..
