Okay so sold the 50 ford f1 and made a few dollars but.... I am looking at a 1950 or 51 chevy flatbed truck for $450 with a title and it runs and drives!. I was wondering if any one ever built and rat and kept it all 1 1/2 ton? I want to change out the old six for some more relible power sbc and auto trans. I do want to upgrade things like the brake system and new wiring. I have learned alot from all of you and from the things i have done! (and not done)

Now keep in mind no big changes just different wheel and tire size maybe flip the axles on top of the springs keep the flatbed but set it as a hauler so to speak....

So who has done it or knows of a build like what i am thinking?

Thanks

Here's some pics I've seen on a thread several weeks ago.If I remember correctly the springs were moved underneath the axles. You can do some searching on RRR and look for this thread.

the one rat rod fireman posted up has a bed on it now with widened fenders its pretty cool looking.. and yes the axles were put on top of the springs...

anyone find the thread it was in? I have a 50 that looks just like it (only not dropped yet)[P

i pulled a cab and chassis out of the bush at the parents farm to use as the base for my build..... the only bad thing i found was that the rear diff ratio was 6.16:1...... so you may wanna check your ratio if you wanna do any highway miles, i opted for a dana 80 rear diff from a 1995 gmc 3500HD, it has 4.63:1 ratio and the bolt pattern is the same as those old chevy rims. it must be a HD truck from 94 to 99 tho, the std 3500 use a 8 bolt pattern. i do believe CORPO used the same chassis on his low cab 1.5T build.... check it out its great.

thanks burnin...

I did use a 1.5ton frame.. and I built a custom rear axle using the center from a dana and the outsides from the original axle... definitely want to be able to hit those highway speeds
